Last week URB presented an exclusive mixtape from one of the Zizek crew’s bass-busting producers, Lagartijeando. This week we caught up with the co-founder of Zizek, Grant C. Dull, to talk openly about the soundwaves he’s commandeered, his travels and worldview. Between his own DJ sets, running the ZZK label and being an ambassador of cool, he makes it all seem so natural.

I played Drake’s “Best I Ever Had” in groups of six, saw Wilco back-to-back at The Wiltern, put my right-hand high with Kid Sister, blew a kiss to Ben Gibbard as Hollywood Bowl exploded with fireworks, chilled with A Place to Bury Strangers, worked-out to Miike Snow, beatboxed with Matis, moved to Silver Lake, boogied down at Nightmares on Wax, got blinded by Mandy’s rock, took my clothes off at Phoenix…
They’re really doing something (way) down South and now their taking it across the North. Buenos Aires’ Zizek Urban Beats Club has a few magazine features this month (especially in URB #154) and it’s all just in time for the collective’s second North American tour. The shindigs begin tonight in New York, so break through the heat for a bit of heat. Because repetition is the father of learning. Check the video and then the complete list of dates. And if that wasn’t enough, a mix of your favorite parappa the rappas over some cumbia classics.
