Baltimore emcee Substantial released his Oddisee executive produced album, “Home Is Where The Art Is” late last year and quickly garnered acccolades from his strong worldwide fan base. Since then, Substantial has toured with yU (of Diamond District), seen the vinyl release of his record, performed at the Smithsonian in DC, and released a wildly successful tribute album to Jill Scott titled “Jackin’ Jill”. Today, Substantial wanted to share the entire collection of instrumentals from “Home Is Where The Art Is” with his fans. The complete instrumentals will be free for a week before heading up on iTunes, so be sure and grab them now. Beats by Oddisee, Eric Lau, M-Phazes, Algorythm, and more!
Substantial “Home Is Where The Art Is” continues to grace speakers domestically and internationally after having gained critical acclaim a few months back. Since releasing the Oddisee executive produced album, Substantial has done a quick tour with Diamond District emcee yU, dropped a few bonus tracks with Oddisee, Homeboy Sandman, and others, and even was invited to do an akapelah show at the Smithsonian in DC.
“Speak about it, Then I be about it.”
For the album cut “Resilient,” Substantial brings on Seattle producer and Bop Alloy partner Marcus D to provide a smoothed out, jazz infused remix. The track, originally produced by Eric Lau, is a testament to the strength it takes to claim your identity and walk your own path. The Marcus D …
Earlier this year, Substantial showed the world that “Home Is Where The Art Is” and for this particular MC the art is deep in PG County, Maryland. The Mello Music Group LP was a breath of fresh air in a stale climate.
Not one to rest on his laurels, Substantial has been hitting the road in support of HIWTAI with his MMG and DMV brethren yU. The run is nearing its end with pivotal stops in Brooklyn and Baltimore coming up this weekend. In celebration of the live demonstration, and as a sneak peek of what you can expect from the two fierce rhymers, Substantial is leaking, “Movin’ Alright.” A bonus cut from the HIWTAI sessions, this Oddisee-produced, high-energy banger features Sub’s current road dog, yU.
Space needle producer Def Dee is easy to catch pushin’ the lac, blowin’ trees, and bumpin’ something fresh. He’s like most young 20-somethings. When Dee signed a producer development deal with MMG last year, there was no rush, just a desire to hear what the promising beatsmith could do with a little time, some access, and an outlet.
Today, Def Dee is excited to share “Numb Again” (featuring yU & Hassaan Mackey) the first track off of his upcoming spring release, 33 an’a third. The album is a remix compilation with a twist. Dee took unreleased verses from his MMG brethren, along with some classic verses, and …
As Substantial’s Mello Music Group debut “Home Is Where The Art Is” nears release, the DMV MC can’t contain his excitement. In anticipation of the release, Substantial joins indie powerhouse Homeboy Sandman and up-and-coming DMV wordsmith Javier Starks for the high-energy track “ReLOADED”.
The track doesn’t appear on Substantial’s own album but is instead a bonus cut from Javier Starks’ upcoming EP, executive produced by Substizzle. and produced by Joe.D, (the main producer for Gods’Illa). The cut packs a punch in the instrumental alone. The MC’s spit accordingly, the always amazing Homeboy Sandman references a wide array of 80’s video games in the opening bars and Javier Starks hits the track running with the flow of a veteran. Substantial might take the cake though, combining the technical efficiency of …
