The Basement Jaxx Remixes Have Landed

If there’s one song to obess over, Basement Jaxx’s “Raindrops” trumps the competition. Starting out in the early ’90s in Brixton, Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe still spark a frenzy amongst legions of house music fans, and the new “Raindrops” remixes do not disappoint. Their upcoming release Scars on XL recordings this Sep features cuts with quite the line-up: Santigold, Yoko Ono, Yo! Majesty, Grace Jones, Lightspeed Champion, Sam Sparro, and Cyndi Lauper.

Dirty Mac ft. John Lennon, Eric Claption, Keith Richards and Mitch Mitchell (Video)

I went through a pretty hefty Beatles phase at the end of middle school. Probably the first band I ever obsessed over—a habit that would lead me to blogging on URB.com two decades later. But how is it possible that this never came onto my radar!? Dirty Mac was a one off group consisting of John Lennon on vocals and guitar, Eric Clapton on lead guitar, Keith Richards on bass, and Mitch Mitchell on drums.Here, they perform The Beatles “Yer Blues,” one of my fave songs from the White Album. Thanks to the recent BBC program A-Z of Erol Alkan for unveiling this amazing momement to me.

Don't be cynical about a sudden renewed interest in John Lennon via film to presume this compilation a cash-in. In the works for more than a minute now, the idea of opening up the vault on Lennon's better half to a variety of top-shelf talent to remix or 'rework' is one that should have been thought up a decade ago.
