Chitchat: Catching up with Kitsuné’s Artistic Director, Gildas Loaec

In many ways le Maison de Kitsuné is one of those cultural forces that has struck America in whispers but with their upcoming 10th compilation, upcoming plans to take over the US and an ever expanding base of fans the past and future of Kitsuné just seems to lay in cautious and relaxed business plans. Along with a clothing line, record label, parties, musicians and a lot more coming up, I sit down with Gildas Loaec to chatter about life, Kitsuné and music.

WIlly Joy ‘Summerz Not Dead’ Mix (Podcast)

Willy Joy

Summer Not Dead

I first met Willy Joy when I saw him open up for Yelle at the Logan Square Auditorium in 2007. It’s now 2010 and Willy has recently wrapped up his four year party Fly By Night; played tour DJ for Kid Sister; opened up for Deadmau5; played along Digitalism and recently went from NY to LA in less than a week. If you were to ask many people around the city about Willy they would probably tell you that he is one of the nicest and humblest of people; despite an exhausting schedule which would drive people into becoming a total grinch. He even found time to make us a mix for our readers on a plane!

I didn’ t want to get to the venue too early and wait around, so I ended up making the mistake of overshooting the start time and didn’ t get to the theatre until almost 10. There’ s a grand atmosphere to the El Rey that is tough to live up to in a performance, especially if it isn’ t a sold out show with a big name on the marquee. The crystal chandeliers, wide aisles, and red carpeting all add to the notion that whoever is playing isn’ t good enough to be there.

The Wild Light had just launched into ‘Future Towns’ when I entered the building. They sounded pretty damn …

RTB 08: Doompostor Sighting!

To hip-hoppers averse to under-rock dwelling, rumors of an impostor posing as underground legend MF Doom at concerts are staler than Nelly-rap about open bags of Baked Lays…dusty. URB has super-sleuthed the bejesus out of forum rants of first/secondhand accounts from attendees of the Psuedo-Doom shows. Our first story appeared right here on URB blogs back in Jan, followed by a proper piece in URB no. 153 May/Jun issue of this year, that piece is right over here. For those whose weighty fingers prohibit the exhausting click of the above links, quick rundown:

As early as 06-07, fans have littered sites with stories of shows that were clearly lipsynched by the masked one. Others …
