Percussion Lab Announces “Cambio” Compilation – Available Now (MP3)

The venerable New York institution Percussion Lab has grown significantly over the past seven years; from an eclectic radio show to a full-fledged web-streaming party bonanza; previous guests include the likes of Scuba, SBTRKT, Dorian Concept, Daedelus, Krystal Klear and way too much more to add to this list. Needless to say, the Percussion Lab family is a collection of past and present NYC locals, along with previous guests that residents Braille (Praveen Sharma of Sepalcure) and Nooka Jones have maintained close ties to throughout the years. Judging by the artists compilation, there are plenty of vibes to behold. Cambio is a compilation that features exclusive tracks from previous Percussion Lab favorites such as Machinedrum, Lando Kal, and XI as well as new cuts from bubbling acts like Archie Pelago, Contakt and Enoe. Here’s what the PLAB guys had to say about this compilation and their contributions on it.

“Over the years, the bedroom producers and shy novices we championed in years past have become some of the most influential names in the world of electronic music. We’re offering this compilation of exclusive tracks as a way of continuing our mission to provide a home for producers and DJs to host their original music and mixes free of charge, and to be able to continue supporting our local community by booking the most forward thinking artists possible for our events. We hope you can help us keep doing all of this, for free, by buying some this complication full of amazing music by some our closest, oldest, and most talented friends. “

They’ve been gracious enough to share the first cut of the compilation, “Friends and Lovers” from Ghostly staple Shigeto. Check out the link to the track as well as the compilation link, post-jump.

Mary Anne Hobbs: Road Warrior Tour Diary for URB – Part Four

The final installment of a bass-fueled journey through the North American continent.

Mary Anne Hobbs graces URB once again with the final entry to her incredible Road Warrior Tour Diary. It’s been a sleepless adventure across the US and beyond, but of course, when you’re playing gigs like Francois K’s Deep Space in New York City, or King Britt and Rucyl’s Saturn Never Sleeps, you tend to keep going no matter how much sleep you’ve lost. Along with those East Coast stops, Mary Anne hits up Canada with some hard-pressed Canadian customs drama. At least she played a great gig with the always-awesome XI. More info about all the highs, lows and in-betweens after the jump.

SXSW 2011: A Recap To Remember

Wild week in Austin would be saying way too little.

As the grinder known as SXSW Music Festival descended upon Austin, Texas for the 25th time, festival-goers would notice immediately that this was pretty big; in the manner that it was most likely the most-attended festival since SXSW’s inception. Sixth Street was a bastion for hipsters, journalists, photographers, DJs, bands and music-hungry young adults looking to find the nearest fix and free party wherever it may be; whilst it was at time a cataclysmic circus around the area, the festival did provide once again its showcase of every band, every genre, and every party imaginable. Without going into too much specifics, here’s SXSW 2011 from an URB perspective:

Sonic Router: Suburban Sine Wave Surfing (Video)

April has seen the sun push its UV rays back into the lives of many a Londoner and after a good few months in hiding its welcome return seems to have brought a whole crate of upfront and exceptional releases to the fore. With emphatic returns from Starkey, Ramadanman and TRG (all be it under his new CosminTRG moniker) the dancefloor is looking like a pretty ominous place to aim your tunes at the moment, but a few of the newer producers are bringing their worth and staking a claim right from the off.
