TAG: Wolfgang Amadaeus Phoenix
It wasn’t that long ago that every day brought a new remix of Phoenix from their break-through 2009 album, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. The band even put out an offical CD of remixes from the album.
But while we wait for the French stars to come with some new music, here comes a dreamy new remix by Paris duo Union, who are preparing to release their debut album on Fat Beats, featuring rappers Elzhi, MF DOOM, Talib Kweli, and Guilty Simpson. There’s nothing really hip-hop on this remix (except the tempo), but it’s an original reimaginging of a group we thought had been twisted and turned every-which-way already.
The universe’s favorite French boys did a spot for iheartradio, and the clips range from talking about first concerts (The Pixies), how they met and learned to play to stripped performances of songs off Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, It’s Never Been Like That, and a cover of Air’s “Playground Love.” Pretty incredible watching them in this intimate setting; it’s almost like being in Thomas Mars’ living room.

It looks like the new Rapture album is being produced by Cassius. Or at least half of it, Philippe Zdar.
Zdar told Pedestrian recently, “They came to me and said, ‘we loved the Phoenix album and we want to do some new music…will you be able to help us?’” He said yes obviously.
Zdar comes to the job with a resume a cut above your average, having produced albums for MC Solaar, Phoenix and our own lads Cut Copy in the past, as well as remixing fellow countrymen Daft Punk and Air.
Check out this collection of remixes from Phoenix’s latest album: Wolfgang Amadaeus Phoenix. There are some new tracks on it that didn’t make the LP so it’s worth checking out. The band also launched a video featuring 20 songs that changed their lives. They’re obviously in the giving mood today so you might as well capitalize on their generosity. First seen at Stereogum.
