RIP DJ Josh Link (Explanation & Apology)

Tags: , , , ,

Yesterday afternoon, NYC drum’n'bass DJ Josh Link (aka Missing Link) was killed in a accident on the Williamsburg Bridge. We mistakenly reported that it was DJ Josh Wink who had passed away. We discovered our error and ran a correction within 30 minutes of the first posting. We apologize to Josh Wink for the error, and offer our condolences to the friends and family of Josh Link.

We first heard word of the tragedy via a promoter from Philadelphia, Josh Wink’s home town. Our founder Raymond Roker posted to his Twitter inquiring about the rumor, and heard back from a friend at MTV in New York saying she had heard the same thing and had details involving the accident. At that point, we posted the “news” on URB.com, stating that the information had come from …

VAustralia Takes Off

Tags:

Virgin founder Richard Branson has done it again; popping a bottle of champagne on the wing of his new super swank Boeing 777 ER, the “honorary Australian” quipped, “what recession?”

VAustralia is scheduled to launch 10 nonstop roundtrip flights from L.A. to Australia a week starting Feb 28th. The 14 hour non-stop flight is priced to be 25-30% cheaper than the average fare to Australia. Originally scheduled to fly only to Sydney and Brisbane the audience went crazy when he announced that they’ve now added Melbourne. One of ten in its fleet, this 777ER is off the chain, boasting a full bar, 38 inches of legroom for every seat in economy class, Internet connection, texting, eggplant leather seats and even twinkling stars on the ceiling, VAustralia is most definitely the only way to …

Falling In Love EP

Almost every Wednesday is known as RELOADED WEDNESDAY’s at the Turf Club in St. Paul. Sean McPherson aka Twinkie from Heiruspecs is the main man behind the weekly and along side him is resident DJ Anton. Twinkie always has an amazing line-up that doesn’t focus on one type of music genre but on a wide variety from Folk to Rap to Rock to Jazz it’s always a surprise.
Big Quarters teamed up with Mux Mool to create the Falling in Love EP, which you can download for free here. This past Wednesday the two were guests of Reloaded Wednesday’s and had a party for the EP which also turned into a going away party for Mux Mool who’s on his way to Bushwick, Brooklyn, NY. The …

Pineapple Express: URB’s Real Review

Tags: , ,

Gus Van Sant’s Gerry is the “story” of Matt Damon and Casey Affleck walking through the desert and not saying a word, as the audience is left to wonder if they’re more than just friends. Pineapple Express—the latest comedy blockbuster out of Judd Apatow’s machine—is the “story” of James Franco and Seth Rogan punching eachother in the nuts and talking a whole lot about dicks, half-brained schemes to get the bad guys before they themselves get got and, of course, marijuana. Lots and lots of weed. It all explodes in a battle royale of automatic weapons. Gerry’s climax comes when Casey Affleck is scared to jump off a rock.

The humor of Pineapple Express never varies from absurdist, even as it disparately moves from awkwardly bad “Walker Texas Ranger” dialogue/plot points and over-the-top slapstick violence/homo-erotic jokes. Discussing the …

Kazell hits the road with Sasha and John Digweed :: PHILADELPHIA ::

Woke up this morning after a sleep of epic proportions, due to the preparations for the tour and general excitement I hadn’t slept too much in the past few days. I headed into the main cabin on the bus where John, Sasha and Patrick (our Tour Manager) were watching the UEFA cup on the Satellite. After being greeted with “Its Alive” and various other comments related to my 12 hour kip I settled down for the 5 hour drive to Philadelphia. Even Though I’ve known the guys for years Its pretty exhilarating kicking it on the bus with two of the worlds greatest DJ’s.
