Erykah Badu Returns with “New Amerykah Part Two: Return of the Ankh” at The El Rey Theatre

Erykah Badu, that goddess of a woman, swayed onto the stage just past 11:30 PM on cool Tuesday night at The El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles. The “secret” show, advertized only through email and Badu’s Twitter account, was the culmination of the two years she’d been laboring over New Amerykah Part Two: Return of the Ankh, her newest effort and sixth album to date. “Part Two,” Badu said during her hour and a half set, “is the melodic, serious, feminine series.” The album follows New Amerykah Part One: 4th World War, which debuted in 2008, after a five-year hiatus by Badu, to rave revues. Below is the “Jump in the Air and Stay there” video featuring your favorite singer’s favorite incarcerated rapper in a kaleidoscope. To say I’m really looking forward to the 3/20/2010 release is an understatement.

Erykah’s Nu Amerykah Part 2 : The Ankh looks like it will be just as mind blowing as the previous disc. With contributions from Lil’ Wayne, Madlib, Ta’Raach, Shafiq Husayn, Questlove?, etc I’ll be eternally grateful if I get another chance to see her perform this time around. Then again cool videos don’t hurt either, and if your in LA, or NYC you may actually get to see a once in a lifetime show.  {Thumbs up to Thundercatt who keeps his tumblr game up just like the bass. Get familiar.}

Erykah Badu – “Window Seat” (MP3)

Here’s one that’s surely gonna be a treat.
