Electric Daisy Carnival CEO Responds To Criticism

Electric Daisy Carnival founder and chief executive Pasquale Rotella has written an op-ed piece that was published in today’s LA Times. In the article, Rotella finally speaks out about the unfair targeting of EDC by the media that eventually pushed the festival out of Los Angeles after 15 consecutive years and millions of dollars in revenue for the city.

“A snowball of negative press and political fallout followed the tragic death of a teenager after the Electric Daisy Carnival in June 2010,” Rotella wrote. “Attention focused on such an alarming incident is understandable, but ever since then Insomniac has been unfairly placed under a microscope. The same scrutiny has not been applied to individuals engaging in illegal behavior or to other festivals and mass gatherings that endure similar issues.”

Ahhhhh yes … the month of March in Miami is known for two things: cheesy spring breakers and out-of-town ravers.  Some might say they go hand in hand but this past weekend, March 25-27 to be exact, Miami was overflowing with some international jetsetting, glowstick toting, furry-boots wearing, high-class raving little monsters that Lady Gaga would be deathly proud of.  Ultra Music Festival 2011 was an epic 3-day EDM heaven, proof that God is indeed a raver.  Over 100,000 people from all over the globe (Brazil and Holland, to be exact) descended onto what used to be Winter Music Conference week.  Yet with this year’s weird date change which resulted in WMC arriving a little earlier, it didn’t deter anyone from not experiencing UMF13 in all …

Duran Duran, Underworld, Will.I.Am and More Added to Ultra Music Festival

A slew of top names have been added to the line-up for the 2011 Ultra Music Festival in Miami, filling out the line-up for the event’s first three day run—March 25-27. The biggest edition is ’80s superstars Duran Duran, who are promoting their new Mark Ronson produced album, All You Need Is Now. Simon Le Bon and company will also be appearing at Cochella in April.

Also added to the bill are Black Eyed Peas frontman Will.I.Am, electronica mainstays Underworld, dutch trance master Armin Van Burren, rave icon Moby, house music superstars Kaskade and Erick Morillo and electronic-jam group Disco Biscuits. …MORE
