Exclusive Mix

To start the year off right, URB has brandished a new look on every podcast, with invigorating and simplistic values that represent what we have in terms of our mixes. To start with that message, we begin with a mix from Rupert Taylor a.k.a. the elusively brilliant xxxy. Peeking his way into the hearts of many with his tunes released on labels such as Fabric, Infrasonics and Mindset, he’s become a sought-after DJ to pair up with his fantastic tracks. What’s intriguing about his mix for URB is that one would never expect someone previously rooted in 140BPM beats (now sitting around 130BPM) to put out a mix as diverse and as immersive as this one. Truly an impressive way to usher in the new year.

SRC – Exclusive Grime Inspiration Mix (MP3)

The grime come 'round in this exclusive mix from a rising star.

The mighty NUMBERS label has established itself quite nicely in the pantheon of labels that surround international bass culture at the moment; bouncing between the sounds of funky, grime, and forward-thinking dubstep, the Glasgow-based bunch has a lot to be smiling about. With a massive release (Quotes EP) from soon-to-be star Kavsrave which debuted last week, NUMBERS has no plans to stop this massive wave of momentum, as 8-bit enthusiast SRC releases his Gold Coinz EP today. Somewhere between Wiley, Nobuo Uematsu and Terror Danjah, lies a world of wonder that exists in this producer’s mind. While you’re buying the release, you should also peek into the influences that shaped SRC in this exclusive mix he provided exclusively for URB. From the moment of audible impact, you will know how special this talent is, not just by his selection but by the sheer amount of raw and untapped energy that rides all the way through this mix. Tracklist and download link after the jump.

Playtime Is Over

Released by Big Dada

If grime was a punk-rock style upheaval of UK dance music, then Wiley is like Sham 69's Jimmy Pursey'a traditionalist in revolutionary's clothing. That's not to say Wiley's second album, Playtime Is Over, brings nothing new to the table, but when dude says he'll still 'be the best for the next 10 summers' on 'Letter 2 Dizzee,' there's absolutely no trace of irony. Wiley was the first (and will probably be the last) grime purist. Beatwise, Playtime culls Wiley's best dubs from the last year, with tracks like 'Bow ...
