D.C.’s 9:30 Club Turns 30, Online Rockumentary

Music fans may have noticed that when a band plays in the DC area, there’s a good chance it’s at the 9:30 Club. Though I have never been to DC, this is one place I would make a pilgrimage to. Once it was the center of the underground scene that thrived in the area, now it is where bands perfect their craft. While today it is in a new space, the landmark club has some truly humble beginnings and it seems to have been in the right hands for 30 years. The Washington Post published a multimedia history of the club. Informative and inspiring, it’s a reminder of the power of music when it’s not consumed by the powers that be.

Public Enemy In D.C. (Video)

On November 18th, Virgin Mobile brought Public Enemy to D.C. for a good cause. To celebrate the three year anniversary of National Homeless Awareness Month designated by Congress through the efforts of the RE*Generation, Virgin Mobile’s charity arm. Proceeds from the event went to benefiting homeless youth, helping them keep warm, and giving back to the Sasha Bruce House, where a young person who needs a place to stay- for any reason- can find a home here.

Virgin Mobile sponsored an early Thanksgiving dinner at the Sasha Bruce House with Public Enemy, with a tour of the shelter and participated in a Q&A session with the kids and press.

Wale and URB’s 150th Issue (MP3)

This week, Wale’s Attention Deficit finally dropped. And, looking back on the path that has led the D.C. rapper to becoming–arguably–the most fawned-over rapper of the year, it’s neat to see how this cover has followed Wale and played an integral part in his ascent. I decided to take a peak at URB’s cover-story on Wale that was in our 150th issue, just over two years ago; This was the first issue I interned on and so it holds a good chunk of sentimental value for me, just as I hope it does for Wale, as I believe it was also his first cover.

I was speaking to another URB-alumni who was actually interning on the set the day Wale and co-cover stars Justice, were being photographed. …
