Hip hop has come a long way. From the heydays of block parties in the Bronx, the culture of hip hop has spread fast to the rest of the world. While many hip hop fans in the States are drooling over the latest 2 Chainz song, some of the biggest and most passionate hip hoppers are located outside of its home country. One example is New Zealand. New Zealand may be on the opposite corner of the world but hip hop is live and well. Despite the distance, Karoline Tamati, better known as Ladi6, brings a new voice to the world of hip hop that lacks many females. Often referred to as “New Zealand’s answer to Erykah Badu,” Ladi6 is honored but is on a mission to distinguish herself.
New Zealand artist and frequent Fat Freddy’s Drop collaborator, Ladi6, is preparing for her upcoming album “Automatic” which will be released on September 17th in the US.
“Automatic” is Ladi6′s third studio album and was recorded between legendary Studio A in Detroit and Revolver Studios in Waiuku. Ladi6 and production partner, Parks, traveled to Detroit to work with grammy winning engineer Todd Fairall and the album is produced mostly by Parks and Detroit hip hop/soul staple, Jeedo aka Waajeed (Bling47, DIRT TECH RECK, Platinum Pied Pipers).
Today, enjoy the mp3 download of the song “Slow Ride” produced by Jeedo and featuring raps from Invincible (Emergence Media / Detroit). It’s a New Zealand meets Detroit affair and the connection sounds lovely.
