URB All-Time Amazing Autumn Songs (MP3)

The country might be experiencing the last heated days of summer, but you can’t miss the sun set inching earlier with each passing day. Autumn is here, which means more time to spend inside with our beloved record collections. Here’s a few of our favorite tunes that smolder with an orange-tinted melancholy, just like the season.

Coldcut – “Autumn Leaves (Irresistable Force mix)”

The radio version saw the Ninja Tune bosses confidently tackling 1945’s ‘Les Feuilles Mortes’ (”The Dead Leaves”) by poet Jacques Prevert and …

Sistol – On the Bright Side (Review)

Sistol

On the Bright Side

Released by Phthalo

Sasu Ripatti’s (aka Sistol) last album, the 1999 Sistol, helped pioneer the reduction of House into dance music less focused on shuffling feet than piquing headphone interest.  Since then, he released scores of diverse records under the monikers Vladislav Delay, Luomo, Uusitalo, AGF/Delay (with his life partner Antye Greie-Fuchs) and has appeared on too many compilations to mention.  So the question for a new Sistol record is “why?” For an artist as forward-moving as Ripatti, a gear-limited, reverse engineered shift to pick up where he left off eleven ...

Unsound Festival NY Opening Weekend In Review

The start of a potentially scene-shifting electronic festival begins in New York.

The announcement of Unsound Festival NY came very suddenly, and just as sudden was the wave of momentum provided by artists, promoters and media sponsors (like ourselves) alike. Decibel Festival Announces 2009 Dates Converting To Non-Profit Status

The critically-acclaimed multimedia art and music event boasted an attendance of over 13,000 in 2008. Past performers over the years include Autechre, Diplo, Green Velvet, Modeselektor, Apparat, Vladislav Delay, Michael Mayer, Gui Boratto, Justice, Matmos, Derrick May, Carl Craig, Stars of the Lid, Murcof, The Field, Deadmau5, Fennesz, among many others. In addition to these performance programs, Decibel also includes a professional section featuring panels and workshops, serving as a forum for musicians and industry professionals alike.

A community arts festival with an educational component, Decibel has always been “non-profit” in essence, by no means a “money-making”venture for its organizers. However, this year Decibel Festival is making it official and has changed to 501.c3 status in efforts to continue the festivals growth by attracting grants and charitable contributions. In preparation for the festival this …

Vladislav Delay – Whistleblower (Review)

Vladislav Delay

Whistleblower

Released by Huume

Those who fully experience the invasive glacial rumble of Vladislav Delay's music (or his more populist alter-ego Luomo) don't merely listen to it: they immerse themselves in it. Or rather, it immerses you by reaching your head with trebly clicks and cuts on the high end before filling the midrange with dubby gurgles and bass burps that resemble the dying motor of an old refrigerator. Then, when the low-end vibrations get even darker and deeper, like they do on Whistleblower's six long, languid tracks, it gets so intense you ...
