Illecism: Microphone So Powerful

The Inner Workings Of California's Latest Underground Phenom

Postmodern mythology seems to constantly weave it’s way into the lyrics of high caliber MCs. For the mighty Wu-Tang Clan this manifested as fragmented allusions to comic books and old kung-fu movies. In Illecism’s case, anime seems to be his muse of choice. With Molotov for example (his last mixtape release of 2010), he even chose to piece together clips from some of his favorites for the full-length accompanying video. For the uninitiated, the main sources for the visuals boil down thusly: Kite, Ninja Scroll, Mezzo Forte, and Akira.

Keep that last one in mind.

The film follows the story of Tetsuo, a bullied teenager who suddenly discovers an awesome power source that gives him superhuman abilities. It’s a film that Illecism likes to have on in the background during his home recording sessions — and it happened …

Earl Greyhound Singing In The Rain, what a glorious feeling… Camp Bisco! (Video)

If it’s possible to be simultaneously ultra-laidback and hard-rocking, Earl Greyhound manages. They’re perfect for a rainy set, so that when you sweat it out to their soul-stirring tunes, the rain cleanses you. Props to them for independently releasing their second studio album “Suspicious Package” without a record label altogether and takin’ it straight to the people. ‘Love their 70’s vibe with a twist of new-millennium techno-democracy.

Steam Coming To Macs This Spring (Video)

Valve hinted at supporting steam on Macs last week via various fake Mac ads (like the one above) featuring popular characters from their games including Half Life 2, Left 4 Dead, Portal and Team Fortress 2. Well it looks like those joke ads had a hint of truth behind them after all.
