For over two years Giant System has been giving stylized cinematic windows into the practice spaces of Chi-Town bands. Their latest production highlights the bombed-out basement domain of VALIS, a darkly industrial electronic duo who lay down a bed of apocalyptic samples, John Carpenter-esque melody lines, and hard-as-fuck drum programming under unintelligible echos from their cigarette-clutching vocalist, whose tortured scowl sounds like Ian Curtis pitch-shifted up an octave.
