The Black Dog – Dark Wave Vol. 2 Exclusive Mix (Podcast)

The Black Dog

Dark Wave Vol. 2 Exclusive Mix

What’s needed to be said about this week’s podcast? It’s only from one of the more iconic groups in electronic music history. The Black Dog have taken many forms in the way of lineup changes, but the musical approach has always been ahead of its time, from their iconic releases on Warp Records (Bytes, Spanners) to their latest, more techno-rooted vibes on the fantastic Soma and Dust Science labels (Further Vexations, Ov Mind Ov Magick); they’ve avoided pigeon-holing themselves time and time again by remaining true to what lies within their deep, dark minds.

Apparently in this mix, it involves a lot of brooding techno and an onslaught of tunes from one of the most impressive young producers to date, Blawan, plus SEVEN unreleased tracks bythe mixersthemselves. That’s not a bad thing at all. This mix is surely something that needs to be experienced prior to highlighting a dark night of bass. With that said, get the headphones on full-blast and the body ready to move at will, enjoy this amazing mix from the legends themselves. Tracklist after the jump.

2pac ft. Fatal & Kurupt, “Ride for Me” (MP3)

Take me! I wanna ride with you, I have my chola outfit on and everything. I just have to stop over lil’ Loca’s house to pick up my Gloria Steinem book right quick but after I’ll die for you and ride with you and eat some popsicles with you. Oh Tupac how do you manage to have so much unreleased material?! I swear each year you at least come back with one new song, this is a bit of coincidence too. Your documentary just aired last night. Tupac you must have so much unreleased material my great great grandchildren will probably end up listening to that unreleased track you release in 2043. Tupac, I love thee. [Stream Via 2 Dope Boyz]

Goapele – Different ft. Mos Def (MP3)

I’m not the biggest fan of Goapele’s voice, but Mos has some solid bars on this one. According to Miss P, this is an unreleased remix of a track from her last album, Change it All.

The Vault: 2Pac – Got My Mind Made Up (with Original Inspectah Deck Verse) (MP3)

Last week we posted an interview with Inspectah Deck in which he explains why his phantom ad libs can be heard at the end of 2Pac’s “Got My Mind Made Up.” The video intrigued me so I started nosing around the internets. A couple hours later I’d found what I was lookng for. Here is the version of Pac’s groundbreaking bi-coastal posse cut with Deck’s original verse still in tact at the end. Needless to say, he slaughtered it. There’s any number of possible reasons why Pac decided to remove the him from the song. We could spend all day considering them. I prefer to just enjoy the music. Props to DJ Luicidal.

This has been another edition of The Vault.

Notorious B.I.G. – Underground Classics (MP3)

I’m predicting more whining about how these are old and that people have already heard them, however I’ve decided to do things a little differently and throw up some unreleased (as well as classic) joints in honor of the late great Notorious B.I.G. for those that HAVEN’T heard them (and I’m sure there’s plenty). I wholeheartedly agree with Meka – celebrating anniversaries of people’s deaths seems inappropriate and downright insensitive, especially to those who’ve lost somebody close to them. I’m not sure why this is the norm, however I do feel that it’s my duty to participate since everyone seems to treat this day as one of remembrance. Down below is the mixtape classic, “Real Niggaz Do Real Things.” After the jump, I’ve got a couple demos Big did with DJ 50 Grand, as well as his “Wake Up Show Freestyle”, aired shortly before his passing. As always, he will continue to be missed!
