CunninLynguists @ El Rey Theatre 05/20/11 (Live Review)

Being a long time fan of the CunninLynguists since their debut record Will Rap for Food, and surprisingly having never seen their live show, I had huge expectations coming into this performance.   Rocking with rapper Homeboy Sandman, Blue Sky Black Death, and affiliate and often-collaborator Tonedeff (pictured below), the CunninLynguists had quite a bit of opening performers to ready up the crowd. While some of the sets felt a bit long (such as Homeboy Sandman’s and Blue Sky Black Death’s which I will get to later), ultimately, the CunninLynguists delivered. Given the departure of one of the Lynguists’ members—the always ill Mr. S.O.S. (departed half a decade ago but still on the QN5 label)—left CunninLynguists with Natti, Deacon and Kno with DJ Flip Flop spinning the mentals on his Serato …

Fat Tony – “Ni**a U Ain’t Fat” (Video)

So imagine this:

You’re at your local supermarket routinely picking out your favorite brand of top sirloin when, all of a sudden, Fat Tony’s face appears and starts rapping at you. That’s pretty much what happened to the unsuspecting gentleman starring in the Houston rapper’s first video off of RABDARGAB, and the hallucinations only got wackier from there. There’s a waiter with a pizza head, a mother with Kit-Kats for fingers. . . Go ahead and watch through to the end to catch the real cherry topper, but it’s advised that you keep your fingertips away from your computer monitor while doing so; you may just end up pulling back a nub.

Fat Tony – “Ni**a U Ain’t Fat” and “Home” (Produced by Tom Cruz) (MP3)

About two years ago, a young and still-blossoming Fat Tony unexpectedly found himself being nominated as one of the most anticipated artists to blow by URB on their Next 1000 list, and was URB accurate in its prediction? Well, considering the fact that Houston’s now most distinguished and acclaimed underground rapper has since opened for Wu-Tang, gained respect from none other than UGK legend Bun B and released his debut album produced entirely by Supreeme’s Tom Cruz, one could definitely say so. …MORE

P.U.R.E presents TopBananas, “Waiting For My Time To Come” official video for DigiNovel soundtrack. (Video & MP3)

I’m excited to finally share the P.U.R.E. drop on this new music video for the soundtrack to the DigiNovel “Please Use Rear Exit” written by Brandon Perkins(former Senior Editor of Urb Magazine). If your not already aware of the the vividly written character descriptions and at times sci-fi-ish chapters here’s a quick PLEASE USE REAR EXIT video synopsis:: When Mikhail walks into an uber-exclusive club in chapter 15, there’s a song playing that instantly puts some pep in his step. This is a video for that song. The debut video tours Los Angeles’ real-life bus system while maintaining P.U.R.E’s otherworldly spirit.

“Waiting For My Time To Come” was written and recorded by Norman Foote II (TopBananas) also URB alum, and mixed by Scott Friedman.

Listen to the chorus, you won’t be disappointed. This song is hot! And, so are the headphones with the gold accents! Dayyummm ;)

Listen + Download + Pass it on.
