WATCH :: DJ Shadow’s Boiler Room Mix (Video)

The Boiler Room has become the one stop shop for watching the best is electronic music artists perform their craft in an intimate setting of webcams and audience standing behind them. And what started as a showcase for young new London DJ talent has become a tour stop for veteran superstars like Thom Yorke and Carl Craig. Now add DJ Shadow to the list. The turntable legend performed last week, without his current Shadowsphere set-up, but still wowed the crowd with his one-of-a-kind technique.

DJ Cutler – Newer Sounds for Older Souls Vol. 1 (MP3)

One of my favorite DJ’s and a personal friend, DJ Cutler has come out with another new mix and as per usual, it was done analog. Here’s what he had to say about the mix:

The majority of the tunes here were released over the past couple of years (everything besides Cortex, Dyke and the Blazers, Lovage and Glass House–the Bob & Gene is an old recording that wasn’t released until this year)… While mainstream corporate music seems to be at an all-time creative low it’s great to see so much good music being put out on the independent/underground level. As usual, all vinyl all the time. Volume 2 soon to follow…

DJ Sleeper – Discovering New Talent (Video)

When I got a random, exclamation-laden email a couple of weeks back telling me to check out some mega-film on YouTube called “Counting Cavemen”, truth be told, I was tempted to disregard it (unsolicited submissions are annoying kids, don’t do it!) but, clicked the link within anyway. What I found, to my surprise, was a really inspiring hybridized-media series of promos for a 155 minute full-length remix record (take that Girl Talk!). As it turns out, “Counting Cavemen” is the brainchild of the mega-turntablist DJ Sleeper, the guy is SUPER devoted, and if you don’t believe me, check this out. His Cavemen LP is split into 7 connecting chapters with different musical themes that take us through the life & death …

Hear Two New DJ Shadow Tracks Live

DJ Shadow has been slowly rolling out new music as part of his Shadowsphere tour. He debut two new cuts at Brooklyn Bowl this week, including what sounds to be an AC/DC sampling banger being called “I Gotta Rock,” (previously captured with worse audio quality) as well as a far more mellow untitled piece featuring some gentle piano and light vocal scratching. Add to these the track “Redeemed” played live over the summer, and the “Def Surrounds Us/I’ve Been Trying” single that was issued last month, and the vision of a full Shadow album, his third since his legendary Endtroducing debut, is starting to take shape. …MORE

DJ Shadow Live 10/31/10 @ HOB Sunset (Review)

Endtroducing...on Halloween

This Halloween I didn’t go trick or treating nor did I costume up, I didn’t even give candy to children—instead, I went to check out one of my favorite DJ’s, the legendary DJ Shadow at the House of Blues on Sunset.  Always skeptical when seeing DJs perform live as their ‘stage performance’ is never truly eventful, I embarked into this show with high hopes of creativity, originality, and entertainment. To my surprise (not really), Shadow delivered on all fronts with his inventive Shadowsphere apparatus and outstanding and thought-provoking visual accompaniment courtesy of longtime VJ collaborator, Ben Stokes.  DJ Shadow, who introduced himself by walking out on stage waving to his fans following an energetic and headnodding performance by Quannum homie Pigeon John (pictures …
