Z-Trip x Tupac “Better Dayz” (Z-Trip’s Make Me Wanna Holler Remix) (MP3)

On Saturday, Z-Trip blew up the Bruins at the renegade URB x Tastemaker UCLA tailgate party at The Rose Bowl (vote for URB founder Raymond Roker in the sidebar). Then he went home and got serious, celebrating the 14th anniversary of Tupac’s death by constructing this inspired mash-up between Pac and another beloved fallen icon, Marvin Gaye.

2pac ft. Fatal & Kurupt, “Ride for Me” (MP3)

Take me! I wanna ride with you, I have my chola outfit on and everything. I just have to stop over lil’ Loca’s house to pick up my Gloria Steinem book right quick but after I’ll die for you and ride with you and eat some popsicles with you. Oh Tupac how do you manage to have so much unreleased material?! I swear each year you at least come back with one new song, this is a bit of coincidence too. Your documentary just aired last night. Tupac you must have so much unreleased material my great great grandchildren will probably end up listening to that unreleased track you release in 2043. Tupac, I love thee. [Stream Via 2 Dope Boyz]

URB Editor Unveils Digital Novel, PleaseUseRearExit.net

When Brandon “Skinny B” Perkins took his leave from the URB office, we figured we’d be seeing his name pop up all over the place. This was the kid who was scoring awards left and right for his writing about hip-hop that was 1000x more advanced than anything you’ll find in the glossy rap mags or ADD hip-hop blogs. Instead, our man went seriously underground, crafting a digital novel that is still hip-hop in spirit, but only if hip-hop took place in the underbelly of Los Angeles nightlife. Oh, and if Los Angeles itself merged into it’s own Matrix of bus lines and Internet wires.

Released mere-chapters at a time, Please Use Rear Exit is only starting to unfold online. Finally something for our Google …

Last week, Inspectah Deck stopped by Toca Tuesdays and while fielding phone calls, one attentive listener questioned why Deck’s adlibs were featured on Tupac’s song Got My Mind Up but he isn’t heard anywhere else.  Surprised, Deck broke it down for Tony Touch, the caller, and the listeners.

Remembering BIGGIE (and Tupac) with Full Documentary Stream (Video)

There is certainly a much-deserved outpouring of commemorative stories today for the one and only B.I.G., and this is a full stream of the 2002 documentary investigating his and Tupac’s deaths.

In 1997, rap superstars Tupac Shakur and Christopher Wallace (aka Biggie Smalls, The Notorious B.I.G.) were gunned down in separate incidents, the apparent victims of hip hop’s infamous east-west rivalry. Nick Broomfield’s film, Biggie & Tupac introduces Russell Poole, an ex-cop with damning evidence that suggests the LAPD deliberately fumbled the case to conceal connections between the police, LA gangs and Death Row Records, the label run by feared rap mogul Marion “Suge” Knight.”
