Underworld Named Music Directors For Olympic Opening Ceremony

Electronica stalwarts Underworld have been tapped by Olympic Opening Ceremony artistic director Danny Boyles (director of Oscar-winning films Slumdog Millionaire and 127 Hours) to be the music directors for the event, which will take place June 27, 2012 in London. The Opening Ceremonies are typically viewed by an estimated 200 million people.

The creative relationship between Boyles and Underworld dates back to the late ’90s, when the group’s song, “Born Slippy (Nuxx)” became the standout tune from Boyle’s breakthrough film, the decade-defining Trainspotting.

“We want to leave people with a musical memory of the show rather than a purely visual one,” said Underworld frontman Karl Hyde. “It’s a great honour to be asked to do this and one we’re taking very seriously – it’s certainly not something we’ll get the chance to do again.” …MORE

Darren Emerson Interview w/DJ Download

If you are scratching your head wondering exactly who Darren Emerson is let me clarify. Darren was the third member of Underworld from roughly 1993 until 2000 when he decided to persue his DJing career of which he has done quite well with. Darren helped propel Underworld into the spotlight with the 1996 smash hit “Born Slippy” which most people know from the movie Trainspotting. Darren went on to fill dancefloors around the globe, start a record label and drop a few choice mixes via the Global Underground compilation series.
