TOKiMONSTA drops The Force Remix EP (Video & MP3)

 

After a well received tour and drop of her much anticipated album, Half Shadows, on Ultra Music, TOKiMONSTA has released some collaborative remix efforts of initial single The Force

The original version of The Force had many take notice of how effortlessly her beat skills were able to match up with and contain the energy of featured artist Kool Keith.  Continuing along that line, the remix package drops with remix efforts by legendary house producer Miguel Campbell, NY based producers, Nick Hook and Branchez, UK producer,  Star Slinger, and LA based A.Chai.  Each producer lends a different sound to the track, which makes for some interesting listening …

TOKiMONSTA ft MNDR – Go With It | SXSW Dates Announced (MP3)

 

We first got wind of this collab after the release date announcement (April 2nd) for TOKi’s forthcoming album, Half Shadows.  It made perfect sense that these two indie darlings would eventually collide as they share space on Ultra’s roster. 

This matchup stands as one of those that could be called ‘perfect.’  MNDR gained notoriety for her angelic voice, and TOKiMONSTA gained her fan adoration through angelic (read dazzling) production.  Pun intended, the collab was a match made in heaven (insert rimshot here).  Go With It, the second drop from the aforementioned album is lightweight aural ambrosia combining TOKi’s dancing chimes and conga style drum patterns with MNDR’s signature Metatronic vocals.  One of the reasons it took us so long to post this on the SF URB …

TOKiMONSTA – The Force ft Kool Keith MV Drop! (Video & MP3)

 What do you get when you cross a TOKiMONSTA,  a Dr. Octagon with the visual dope of Japanese designer, Teppei Maki?  You get ‘The Force’.

The current single, meant to signal the April launch of her newest album ‘Half Shadows’ is the love child of TOKi’s hypnotic beats and Kool Keith’s oft-psychadelic brand of verbal wit.  Keith’s verbage aside, the production on this track is ridiculous and has been on repeat here at the URB SF office.  Interestingly enough, after having been tripped out by the visuals, we found that the hyper-kinetic video was produced without TOKi and Teppei having physically met.  Teppei had answered a call out on TOKi’s twitter for visual collaborators, and this video …

Emerging brother duo Weapons of Audio return with another genre melting track - ”Life Goes” - from their Jam In The Van sessions. Rapper Floyd Daniels delivers a poetic tale of life’s trials and tribulations as his younger brother Jeremy belts out a soulful hook and the drummer rocks a Peruvian pan flute beatbox, continuing WOA’s trend of uniquely blending soul, hip-hop and indie rock vibes.  

Weapons of Audio perform in Los Angeles tonight at Check Yo Ponytail 2 at Echoplex along with Tokimonsta, The Very Best and Jonwayne.    They also perform at City Stock Festival in Los Angeles on Saturday September 1st with Black Crystal Wolf Kids, Noah & The Megafauna and Ninja Betty.  Download their latest single “Dreams” from Soundcloud.

Shafiq Husayn – DNA (Splice Mix 3) feat. Om’Mas Keith (MP3)

Dublin, Ireland’s All City Records is proud to share the final installment of their LA 10″ x 10 series which featured an impressive list of artists including Exile, Samiyam, Tokimonsta, Take, Matthew David, Dam-Funk, Ras G and others. The 10th edition was their ‘last’ edition featuring Exile and Free The Robots but today, you can enjoy a bonus 10″ from LA #0 this time featuring Shafiq Husayn and Om’Mas Keith of the group, SA-RA. Both artists are major influences and figures in the LA production community and it’s truly a great way to end this well-curated series.

Today, check the free MP3 download of “DNA (Splice Mix 3)” which is the final section of Shafiq’s seven minute contribution to this 10″.
