After a well received tour and drop of her much anticipated album, Half Shadows, on Ultra Music, TOKiMONSTA has released some collaborative remix efforts of initial single The Force.
The original version of The Force had many take notice of how effortlessly her beat skills were able to match up with and contain the energy of featured artist Kool Keith. Continuing along that line, the remix package drops with remix efforts by legendary house producer Miguel Campbell, NY based producers, Nick Hook and Branchez, UK producer, Star Slinger, and LA based A.Chai. Each producer lends a different sound to the track, which makes for some interesting listening …
We first got wind of this collab after the release date announcement (April 2nd) for TOKi’s forthcoming album, Half Shadows. It made perfect sense that these two indie darlings would eventually collide as they share space on Ultra’s roster.
This matchup stands as one of those that could be called ‘perfect.’ MNDR gained notoriety for her angelic voice, and TOKiMONSTA gained her fan adoration through angelic (read dazzling) production. Pun intended, the collab was a match made in heaven (insert rimshot here). The current single, meant to signal the April launch of her newest album ‘Half Shadows’ is the love child of TOKi’s hypnotic beats and Kool Keith’s oft-psychadelic brand of verbal wit. Keith’s verbage aside, the production on this track is ridiculous and has been on repeat here at the URB SF office. Interestingly enough, after having been tripped out by the visuals, we found that the hyper-kinetic video was produced without TOKi and Teppei having physically met. Teppei had answered a call out on TOKi’s twitter for visual collaborators, and this video …
