ESL MUSIC PRESENTS  
A wide range of acts played the Greek Theatre this past Friday, September 9th. The show included Thievery Corporation, with AM and Shawn Lee and Fitz and the Tantrums opening the night. The Greek was a perfect fit for these bands, especially since it’s in the middle of Griffith Park. While still in LA, it feels as though you’re miles away in a remote location. Although each band has their own distinct sound, they all seamlessly worked well on a single bill. AM and Shawn Lee started the night strong, but unfortunately, to a very small audience. It was disappointing to see the size of the crowd in such a large venue, but this did not seem to affect the band. The label, Thievery Corporations ESL imprint, gave us our pick of what track to share, and we choose the version of “Rio Mescalito” by Next 100 albumni Mexicans With Guns for it’s weird minimal take on the original version. The full album is out today. Download after the jump.
“That’ll be 28 dollars,” said the bartender at The Wiltern, as I cautiously slid my debit card to him thinking he might have made a mistake. “Wait, 28 dollars for two beers. Are you sure?” He nods, annoyed. Enter the heavy bass and vocal sirens of Röyksopp to refresh a beer and make it taste like, well, a 14 dollar beer. Norwegian duo and electronic music veterans Röyksopp prove once again that they’re still relevant and should be excused for their uncharacteristic work with pop artist (and fellow Scandinavian) Robyn. The duo, composed of the unassuming yet brilliant Svein Berge and Torbjørn Brundtland, performed in front of the appreciative crowd at the historic Wiltern in Los Angeles last Tuesday March 29th. Last year, URB attended our first Lightning In A Bottle, the annual miniature Burning Man that decends on the outer hills of Orange County with a weekend’s worth of electronic music mayhem, dudes wearing furry chaps, and yoga-toned beauties blowing scented oil bubbles through the crowd. Promoters The Do Lab have given URB the exclusive peak at this year’s line-up, which includes headliners Thievery Corporation and Pretty Lights, along with with stars affilitaed with that scene, such as Beats Antique, PANTyRAID, and KRADDY, plus international heavy hitters Claude Von Stroke, Bonobo and Nick Warren.
