A unexpected find at a mellow Sunday show

A Sunday night out to catch The One AM Radio’s swing through town took me to a most unusual new spot and led me to catch opener All Smiles for a second time on Monday night.

The ethereal mix of acoustics and electronics Hrishikesh Hirway puts together as The One AM Radio seemed like a perfect soundtrack to wind down Spring’s first weekend, but it was really this show’s venue that got me motivated to check out the show.

Ronny’s is the type of neighborhood old man spot that you’d never have reason to stop into unless you lived around the corner. It’s an innocuous little building with flickery neon signs clouding the windows and no outward appeal besides the promise of beer. I’ve passed by the place many times …

The Onion now available to the illiterate

The Onion was ahead of the fake news curve, but with the genre now ruling TV, the venerable old paper decided to step up their game with the launch of The Onion News Network. With The Daily Show, The Colbert Report and even Fox News' Half Hour News Hour, the fake broadcast news business is booming, but it's doubtful any of them will take their efforts quite as far as the Web based ONN.

Dancing is still a crime – in Austin

One story you might not read about in the SXSW wrap-ups flooding the internet this week is the rash of police bust that took down nearly every afterparty this year. Sure, DJs still had a large presence in the daytime events—both official and unofficial—but the number of DJs booked for proper SXSW evening showcases were abysmally few. It’s Feb 8th, do you know where your Ghostface Poker is?

We can't say that we've been waiting around all day for the launch of Ghostface Killah's new poker site, but we'd be lying to say that some hip-hop hold'em isn't highly anticipated. Promising poker players like Hot 97's Angie Martinez and Theodore Unit's Shawn Wiggs, GFKpoker.com is oh-for-one when it comes to keeping promises. Feb 8th is here, and almost gone—the East Coast has already packed it up for a day and all online activity will now consist of MySpace or pr0n, only—and the site is still just a starter page. It's not like punctuality has ever been a Wu staple, but still…

Still Questioning Reptoids?

Tags: , ,

The evolution of indie rap, aka Spankrock and crew's rock'n'roll, boozed and sexed up lyricals-spitting B'more/Philly faction, sent us some great garb for the holidays. Believe our my enthusiasm at getting this Milkcrate t-shirt (pictured after jump) of a Shapeshifting Reptoid gettin' gettin' some…

Aaron knows how to make a paranoid schitzophrenic conspiracy theorist music nerd high-five his friends and point to the funny silk screen on his shirt.
