Don’t get in the dark van with indie rappers

I'm alive. I didn't get robbed or raped and I still have my equipment. It could have been a lot worse.

Saigon’s single saves

The first single off of Saigon's new album The Greatest Story Never Told, “C'mon Baby” (produced by none other than Just Blaze) is a certifiable banger. I truly thought this would be the record to shift the tides away from ringtone rap, but rather appropriately and unsurprisingly, everytime I turn the dial to the local hip-hop stations, I just keep getting more (and more) T-Pain. But that's beside the point. Word is Sai's got a special guest for the album version of the new cut.

And it's none other than El Presidente himself, Jay-Z. Sai recently told Scratch magazine about working with Hov on the record: “The album version has Jay-Z on it. Jay didn’t clear it for a single, but he cleared it for the album. I might do a new verse 'cause Jay's verse is stupid. …

Dispatches from State 51: Lateef Drops in, Drops a Rhyme, Leaves

Yorkshire, England, 2006: A young up-and-coming producer on a small-but-cool label readies his debut album for release but needs a big single to give it that little extra boost towards the big time. So, he reaches out to Lateef, and the Truth Speaker responds, choosing a tune and laying down something truly memorable (with a little help from Vadim muse Yarah Bravo and some mighty flute action from the aforementioned studio wiz).
