Now Vadim’s on the remix contest bandwagon

These things always happen in threes. First it was RJD2, then Coldcut got in on the action, now DJ Vadim is promoting his new album by giving away his sounds for a remix contest.

This time it’s a bit different as there’s a real prize; release of the winning remix as the B side to a Vadim single. The contest features the songs “Kill Kill Kill” and “Talk to Me” from Vadim’s forthcoming album The Soundcatcher. Listen to the originals on his MySpace page. The files are broken up into a number of pieces some of which are available in FLAC format. You can snag them here, and check the contest details below:

LIVE FROM NEW YORK: Mr. Saturday night special, 02.25.07

I won’t lie—proximity to charisma, influence and fame is a little intoxicating. I’m not ashamed to admit it. Plus, I just naturally like to be where the action is. From backstage greenrooms to exclusive soirees at Sundance to URB photo shoots, I’m drawn to the flame of celebrity like a moth. I didn’t start a magazine to live vicariously, but it’s become a nice vehicle to occasionally put me upfront and personal with celebrity culture.

Coldcut just turned 20 & you get the presents

It's hard to believe it's been 20 years since Coldcut helped kick of the UK dance scene with their white label “Hey Kids What Time is It?” and their “Seven Minutes of Madness” remix of Erik B. & Rakim's paid in full.

To celebrate their 20 years together Matt Black and Jon More are hosting a still somewhat undefined remix competition. Each month they'll be giving away the pieces of a different track from their 2006 album Sound Mirrors. First up is “True Skool” and the samples are all “unmixed stems” which means there's long patches of silence in the mp3 files, but you do get Roots Manuva's full acapella to play with.

Rules and …

RJD2 wants you to remix a song you’ve never heard

With a month to go before the release of his next disc The Third Hand, producer/DJ RJD2 is calling on fans to remix his track “Sweet Piece” through a page on the media sharing imeem site . RJ wanted this to be different from the typical online remix deal so instead of posting loops, he chopped the song into individual notes allowing people to use his sounds to make their own kits, and he's unnecessarily calling the tracks people are posting on the site pre-mixes.

There's 133 sound files from RJD2 to grab from the site, and people are already posting up songs they've made from the sounds. The concept is to see the different sort of tracks people make with the same set of noises, but thus far most of the postings sound like choppy …
