Stream The Knife’s Electro Opera ‘Tomorrow In A Year’ (MP3)

A few weeks ago, we discovered that Swedish electro-goths The Knife had recorded an operatic score with the help of Mt. Sims, based on the life of Charles Dawrwin. The first 10-minutes pieces, “Colouring of Pigeons” had us swooning, so we can’t wait to dig into the full score, which you can stream here.

The Knife Compose Opera About Darwin with Mt. Sims – “Colouring of Pigeons” (Video & MP3)

The Knife (and accompanying solo act Fever Ray) have become famous for their dark and brooding stage shows. So it’s not all that surprising to hear that the duo were asked to compose the soundtrack to Tomorrow, In a Year, a Danish “electro-opera” about Charles Darwin’s Origin of the Species. What is surprising is hear the voice of electroclash refugee Mt. Sims dueting with Karin Dreijer Andersson. The opera also features upcoming DFA signee Planningtorock, who don’t really rock at all, but are certainly cut from the same mutant cabaret cloth as The Knife.

As one half of the The Knife (her brother Olof is her counterpart), she enjoyed heavy praise for the duo’s third album, Silent Shout, which Pitchfork pronounced Best Record of 2006.

After taking a few years off to recoup after the sudden surge in attention after her already decade-long career, Karin has resurfaced on the scene as Fever Ray, which is both a project and the name of her album. Embraced for her dark, surreal take on music, imagery, and vocals, her self-titled debut has been shaping up to be one of the most highly-praised albums of the year.

It’s only fitting, then, that a deluxe album be released November …

Fever Ray: Darkness at the Edge of Stockholm (Interview)

You’re standing alone on the edge of a post-apocalyptic world with white war paint streaked defiantly across your face, starting purposefully out an unconcerned sky. It’s not a question of whether you’ll jump, but rather when you’ll take off the headphones blaring Fever Ray and walk back to reality. This is where the side project of The Knife’s lead singer Karin Dreijer takes you — somewhere that’s unpleasantly exotic but completely necessary, her intense croon weaving through the synapses in your brain like a charmed cobra, the stripped-down, future-forward beats leaving their footprints behind in your mind. It’s unsurprising then, that Fever Ray became the darling of critics and fans since the debut album dropped last spring with videos as stunning as the songs themselves. This month, we were more than ready for …
