Pimp C “What Up” ft. Drake & Bun B (MP3)

Our first thought on this first posthumous release by legendary Texas rapper Pimp C is “what took so long?” Our next though was to wonder if Pimp C and Drake would have ever collaborated in real life. The song also features a beat by Drake collaborator Boi-1da, which leaves you wondering how cynical this whole package is. But then Bun B comes on, and we gotta assume he’s keeping things relatively legit, even if dueting with the deceased is always a tricky proposition.

The full album, The Naked Soul of Sweet Jones, is due October 5 from Rap-A-Lot.

T!ts, Bl!ss, Neon !ndian: Bonnarooo!!! (Video & MP3)

No disrespect intended in the title…’just the right words…Play this full-screen, at highest resolution possible — just click on the boxes in lower right hand corner of the video player. And oh, yeah: PAINTED-NIPPLE ALERT for part 2. During a magical night following a day when I didn’t think the Festival Gods could shine anymore gifts my way after the sun came out and offered copious amounts of perfect summer bliss, removing the prior, taken-for-granted expectation that Bonnaroo 2010 would be a rainy mudfest (mudfests being underrated), this show by Neon Indian contributed to the vibe brilliantly by way of a most complementary night-groove, punctuated by nipple-feathered, Wellington-rocking, headpiece-balancing ‘Roo-nymphs….

The Strange Boys – Be Brave (Review)

The Strange Boys

Be Brave

Released by Rough Trade

It would be easy to make comparisons when it comes to Austin, TX garage rock band The Strange Boys--all the requisite Southern rocking, croaky singing, fuzz-boxing elements are there. On their second studio album, Be Brave, the once-punk, six-member band do their best to subvert any cliches about their musical M.O. by channeling dusty guitars, harmonicas and organs. The decidely lo-fi production renders the music more modern than old, more organic than glam.
