The Away Team, Scars & Stripes (Review)

The Away Team

Scars & Stripes

Released by IWWMG/Jamla/Duckdown

North Carolina might have saved hip-hop for a year or two (too bad that was circa 2003 or 2005 depending on your entry point). Khrysis is one of the best producers of the Fruity Loops era. That compressed sound was made for the digital generation and is still easy on the ear when done right. 9th Wonder & Khrysis are descendants of the Native Tongues, that was clear from the outset, why else would the marquee group of their movement be called Little Brother. But the cast on the fractured in-between has to be Da Beatminerz' crackling sound which kept the Boot Camp Clik on the borderline of backpack and blackjack; an export that worked exceedingly well with the Hall Of Justus massive's burgeoning endeavors.

shout to matt diamond on this awesome move. This is a copy/paste from Prefix mag who premiered “Beautiful”…:) what a awswesome song an awesome cause.

Cancer has become so prevalent these days that we all know at least one person, if not more, battling the disease. Recognizing this fact was Matt Diamond, owner of indie hip-hop label Coalmine Records. He looked to spread awareness of the disease and raise funds to go toward the American Cancer Society’s ongoing fight to find a cure.

As such, he reached out to some of hip-hop’s best talents to record a song that emphasizes celebrating life. Backed by uplifting, piano-led production from M-Phazes, the appropriately titled “Beautiful” features verses from hip-hop heavyweight Talib Kweli, burgeoning star Big K.R.I.T., and up-and-coming rapper-singer Outasight.

Together, the MCs provide the inspirational …

Black Star Debut New Song On Colbert Report :: “Fix Up” (Video)

Stephen Colbert has suddenly become the go-to guy for excellent music performances (better step it up Fallon). Hip-hop legends Black StarTalib Kweli and Yasiin Bey (the rapper formerly known as Mos Def)—were on the Colbert Report last night to premier a new Madlib-produced song, “Fix Up,” as well as “Astronomy (8th Light).” But much like Radiohead’s Colbert appearance last week, the highlight was the interview with Colbert himself. Watch the chat and “Fix Up” below, and “Astronomy (8th Light)” after the jump.

Lee Bannon – Fantastic Plastic (Full EP Stream)

Lee Bannon’s “Fantastic Plastic” EP is out now via Plug Research!! The full length album should be expected to drop sometime in early 2012.

4 new dope/ different videos: @kylerapps @realtalibkweli @sirahone @_ASAProcky @Luckyovlegends (Video & MP3)

I have been searching for some dope videos that have nothing to do with each other, and I seem to find 2 great ones.
One features Kyle Rapps w/ Talib kweli in a awesome audition that features NYC acts like Diwon and Y Love and Jah C tryin out for the part of…well. something famous?
Universe Traveler plays over the beat of French Duo “Air” and has Talib doing what he does best…talking about travelling the world!

Our other video features Sirah, an LA songstress that mixes some indie pop over some feel good LA picnic steez. Double Yellow Lines is much different than Kyle Rapps’ video. Kissing little dogs and picnic baskets and partly shaven heads, might not be your thing. I am def into picnic baskets on bikes though. Good move Sirah….
