Punk rock suicide flick premiers

I tend to be weary when it comes to biopics. Especially musical ones. It seems to me that they never exceed the ones I enjoyed in my youth. Let's be honest, no one has touched Clint Eastwood's Charlie Parker flick Bird when it comes to high drama. And no one has come close to Oliver Stone's The Doors when looking for high absurdity. To this day, I am utterly incapable in turning off either of these masterpieces if I happen to stumble upon one on cable. You just can't mess with Val Kilmer in a brunette wig or Forest Whitaker playing a junkie jazz legend.

I've also developed a distaste for the trend towards biopic actors winning Best Actor awards ala' Ray or Walk the Line. It just seems cheap, taking a well …

Rejected!

Phil Spector and his lawyers suffered a major setback today when LA County Superior Court Judge Larry Paul Fiddler rejected their attempts to use diary excerpts from the actress Spector is accused of murdering to “raise questions about her lifestyle”.

Heavy metal refugees

Imagine rocking out at a concert, moshing, or simply head banging to Metallica. Everything's cool right? Now imagine doing that same thing but simultaneously ducking a few grenades, suicide bombers and a potential life sentence in prison. . .just for rocking out. Are you shocked that we're talking about Iraq?

Meet Acrassicauda, which translates to Black Scorpion, the only heavy metal band in the much maligned Middle Eastern country. Follow them, as Vice chronicles a day in the life of being in a heavy metal band in Iraq, from the start of the conflict in Iraq in 2003, all the way to their last show in 2005. It's a fascinating look at how life is on that area of the globe.

It's pretty darn crazy. Actually, crazy would be an understatement.

Girl You Know It’s Based on a True Story

Screenwriter Jeff Nathanson reports he has just secured the rights to the Milli Vanilli story from both the alive one and the dead one's estate. Nathanson has written Catch Me if You Can, Rush Hours 2 & 3, and wrote/directed the CRIMINALLY underrated Alec Baldwin comedy The Last Shot (above. seriously, rent it nowish. amazing amazingness). Nathanson says, “I've always been fascinated by the notion of fakes and frauds, and in this case, you had guys who pulled off the ultimate con, selling 30 million singles and 11 million albums and then becoming the biggest laughing-stocks of pop entertainment. Fabrice had always refused to sell their rights; he was very cautious of Hollywood after all he'd been through. But my intention is to tell this story from their point of view.” Should be downright hilarious! …
