Shepard Fairey Attacked In Copenhagen

Street Artist Blames Local Media For Inciting The "Ambush" 

Shepard Fairey was attacked this weekend in Copenhagen by four men outside of an after-party for the renowned street artist’s gallery show. The attack apparently stemmed from a public mural of a dove that Fairey painted near the site of a contentious former arts venue/leftist political venue Ungdomshuset (The Youth House).

You can read Fairey’s explanation of the incident here, which involves speculation that it was sensationalist reporting by the local media thatlead to the assault.

Shepard Fairey’s West Hollywood Library Project

I lived about three blocks away from the new West Hollywood library for several years, so I basically got to see all the ugly construction and lane closures as I would bike past several times a week. Now that I’ve moved, it seems the library is getting a much nicer facade, thanks to street artists Shepard Fairey, Kenny Scharf and RETNA. Here’s some pics of Fairey at work on what appears will be a very yellow wall piece. There’s still a lot of work to be done, but that’s a fair assumption.

Banksy Film Nominated For An Oscar (Video)

Way down the list of Oscar nominations, we finally noticed a little indepenent film by some street art provocateur named Banksy was nominated for Best Documentary. Exit Through The Gift Shop is the directorial debut of the faceless British artists and frequent Shepard Fairey collaborator, best known for pranks like placing a Guantanimo prisoner doll at Disneyland, replacing a bunch of Paris Hilton CDs with his own alternate art work in record shops, and most recently, crafting his own version of the Simpsons opening credits.

Shepard Fairey “Cleared” In HOPE Copyright Case

A judge has dismissed copyright lawsuits between an artist who created the Barack Obama “HOPE” image and The Associated Press but has left a March trial date in place for related claims between the news service and companies that sold merchandise using the artist’s image.
