URB Exclusive: Codebreaker, “The Space Chase” LP (Stream) (MP3)

As soon as the first song hit, I imagined a camera panning in from the sky onto an overhead of a bustling city street, diving onto the alley floor while the camera raised up slowly presenting some mystical land composed of the ’80’s and Street Fighter. The Space Chase definitely breaks out of just a ton of 80’s cliche’s though. It includes bustling funk, bubbling finger pulses, vocoder disco and music you would imagine blasts out of brothels made out of glass and stainless steel. URB Exclusive: Preview Tipper’s New LP! (MP3)

While toiling in the underbelly of the UK dance scene for over ten years, producer Dave Tipper has managed to not only attain a reputation for being one of the imminent trip-hoppers of the past decade but also one of the most avid collectors of rare synths and unique instrumentation. On “Broken Soul Jamboree”, Tipper’s 9th full-length studio set, the music maestro feigns tinges of Amon Tobin next to those reminiscent of DJ Shadow while setting off the Hang Drum (an instrument that’s only about a decade old) and other more traditional MIDI synth sounds.
