Live Review: Ebony Bones! @ The Echo in LA (02.05.10)

- As experienced by Svein Brunstad

Ebony Bones is perhaps the most chattered about act in London right now. She’s a one-of-a-kind producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist with a great rhythm section and backing vocalists. Named as one of SXSW’s best new acts of 2009, her critically acclaimed debut album Bone Of My Bones is slated for release in the US later this year. Known for playing a role on the British TV drama Family Affairs, Ebony Thomas has also been nominated for The British Soap Awards’ sexiest female. And some of that sexiness, in her self-designed costumes, shined on the lucky audience this rainy Friday night. …MORE

Iggy and the Stooges remain one of my all time favorites and count as one of the sounds that blew my mind apart and sealed the deal that I would forever be indebted to rocknroll. I’m very sad to report on Ron’s passing…

Interview with NYC’s FIGO

FIGO has been bangin’ out unique combinations of electro and rock for some time now up in the Big Apple. URB got a chance to catch up with them before their big week with the CMJ festival.

FIGO: The electro-rock sound for us just grew naturally. When we started, FIGO was a three piece – Bob on guitar, Paul on bass, Parag on drums and vocals. We always knew we wanted to get the sound more electronic, we didn’t know exactly how to do it, but we still wanted to keep the harder, live band sound as well. When Ryan joined the band he would produce …

What you are treated to next is not a piece of interpretive dance or an evening of spoken word, but more than an hour of bombastic psychedelic rock, mellow indie moments, classical compostions and mind-blowing noise. What is this mysterious event? It’s Oneida, the experimental Brooklyn rock band, playing their 2005 album ‘The Wedding’ in its entirety with a string quintet, back-up singers, a pianist and a pyschedelic light show. And that’s exactly …

There's a moment in the Coachella movie when Josh Homme describes Iggy Pop as a 'rusty wire.' Cut to the shirtless senior onstage, musculature like plated armor beneath a web of veins. There's no doubt that James Osterberg is the real shit, and even four decades since The Stooges became the defi nitive anti-counter-culture band, there was every reason for high expectations for this comeback album. The results, however, rarely match up with the legend. Lead single 'Idea of Fun' delivers on the promise, with the original Asheton ...
