Kanye, Arcade Fire, Steve Wonder :: 22 Bands We Loved At Austin City Limits

Austin, Texas survived her 10th year of the Austin City Limits festival. Thousands of Austinites and tourists flooded into Zilker Park last weekend for food, drink and, most of all, the sweet sound of music. C3 productions, the producers of this three-day event, thankfully worked out some of the kinks that plagued the festival in years past. In collaboration with Austin Parks and Recreation, C3 contributed to an irrigation system for Zilker, eliminating the “Dust Bowl” phenomenon two years ago. Adequate water filling stations, misters and an ingenious recycling system (fill a bag, get a free T-shirt) all contributed to pleasant and uplifting experience much needed by the folks in Central Texas recently ravaged by wildfires.

Interview: Justin Nozuka (Video)

When you listen to Justin Nozuka’s music, you may feel you’ve found Canada’s answer to the the blue-eyed soul/rock made popular by artists like Ray Lamontagne, Citizen Cope and Gavin Degraw. Half-Japanese and half- American, Nozuka’s vocals soar with the gusto of Jason Mraz and the bounce of Bob Marley, making it hard to believe he is a mere 22 years-old. What makes it stranger is that some of Justin’s most popular songs, such as the haunting “Supposed to Grow Old,” were written by the singer-songwriter when he was as young as 15. Justin has already opened for Stevie Wonder, co-headlined an American tour with Missy Higgins, and gained …

InLove – Stories (Review)

InLove

Stories

Released by Inflamable

Stories is the debut album by former Ford model InLove, and it’s produced by legendary DJ CAM. She was born and raised in Nigeria, and spent the 15th first years of her life under the influence of African vibes, music, rhythm and dance. At 20 years old she met DJ CAM, and they collaborated on DJ CAM's album Soulshine, featuring the million selling hit “Summer In Paris." She is inspired by great artists as Ella Fitzgerald, Jill Scott, Sade, Dusty, Springfield and Portishead. However, you can’t hear any African influences on Stories; it sounds more like the cosmopolitan brand of sophisticated R&B and Japanese nu-jazz. Dusty Springfield and Beth Gibbons are clearly sources of inspiration with her laidback cool and smoky singing, but her voice sounds a little thin over the ten tracks.
