The remixes for M.I.A.’s new one are seriously challenging the original productions for dominance. This one comes courtesy of Philly original Zakee, whose has a full-length coming out on M.I.A.’s finance’s Green Owl label this fall. Zakee’s previous tracks have been in a sort of chillwave-meets-afrobeat vibe, but starting with the original production by M.I.A., Rusko and Swithc, he naturally goes a bit harder.

There has been nothing orthodox about the roll-out to M.I.A.’s ridiculously-anticipated third album. From blimps above Coachella to battles with “gotcha” journalists, getting there has been half the fun. But with a month to go, this marathon build-up is becoming absurd. Today, the full album began streaming on the People’s Record Store website (Faux-populist web portal name? Check!). The rub? The player only plays :30 of each track at a time, meaning if you want to hear the full 6:20 of “Teqkilla,” you have to hit play 13 times. …MORE
We’ve gotten used to daily M.I.A. news as the release of her new album approaches, but here’s a two-fer. First is the remix of “XXXO,” Maya’s poppiest selection yet, and nothing makes a hit like Jay-Z on the verse who rhymes “XXXO” with “metro-sexual,” reminding us that he really is the GOAT.
