Lollapalooza 2010 Day Two: OK maybe this is a rock festival after all

After the flashy beats and rhythm-focused first day of Lollapalooza, things returned to a form of sorts as the second day came into focus amid the continuing ideal weather. The crowds didn’t seem to be as thick as the mobs of sold out previous years, but that didn’t stop a steady stream of gate crashing attempts (with varying degrees of success) from those on the outside, and in truth the extra personal space may have been as much due to the expanded grounds, additional stages as it was to smaller numbers.

The added space turned six-lane Columbus Drive into a pedestrian walkway allowing a bottleneck free passage between stages, and the new layout gave every stage more room to let the sound breath and thus cut down on bleed. And of course the focus of the weekend was those sounds. For …

Live Review – Morning Benders @ Music Hall of Williamsburg (Video)

“You guys wanna dance for a couple of minutes?,” asked Morning Benders lead singer Chris Chu to a sold-out crowd at Music Hall of Williamsburg Saturday night.

It’s not the most obvious question you’d expect to hear from a band known more for shimmering pop and atmospheric guitars than pulsating rhythms, but tonight, the quartet supplemented the guitar-heavy sound of their latest album Big Echo with a swing only previously hinted at on record. Coachella’s “Sunshine in a Bag” with Gorillaz, Thom Yorke, More

On the final day of Coachella, the evening lineup was almost too much to say in one breath. Each performance on leading to Gorillaz built upon the layers of palpable energy until the 75,000 some-odd people erupted into a united dance and seal Coachella 2010 into the echelons of history. The night began with Jonsi, Spoon, Phoenix, Thom Yorke, and ended with Gorillaz. Read on for more. …MORE

Lollapalooza 2010 Lineup with Soundgarden Headlining

Well, here’s Lolla’s attempt to hold down the hipsterness of Chicago this summer. It’s a strong lineup with tons of recognizable bands, but I’m not convinced it’s the festival of the summer. It seems relatively run-of-the mill, but I will say that New York’s Los Amigos Invisibles will be totally cool to see and they bring some much needed alternative flair.

Full lineup below. Tickets are $215 here and it takes place in Grant Park, Chicago on August 6-8.

Spoon – “The Mystery Zone” Live Acoustic (Video)

For the band that needs no introduction, Spoon recently stopped by Canada’s QTV and performed “The Mystery Zone” off of Transference. Not only is it a delight to hear a track other than “Written in Reverse,” but the ease with which they flip between acoustic and full-on rock-out sessions is only one of the reasons this home-grown bunch is coasting.
