Lady Sov continues late night domination

England's No. 1 undersized rapper continues her assault on mainstream America's late night airwaves this Friday with an appearance on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson . Coming hot on the heels of her New Year's Eve performance on MTV and stops on Letterman and Kimmel, Lady Sovereign is closing in on reaching every late night television viewer in the states. The firebrand MC had a high profile 2006 and seems set on being everywhere once again in '07. Savvy late night viewers can catch a double dose of high energy hip hop Friday if they catch Spank Rock on Kimmel and then flip to Ferguson for the S-O-V.

I’ve got a confession to make: when the binocular lenses come in right at the beginning of the video, my mind immediately associated them with a full, round boot[a]y. Whether that means I’m a tad on the pervish side or that I just picked up on something they intended to happen is beyond me (although I have a feeling that it’s a combination of the two). Although surprisingly tame, where else are you going to find Addicted to Love extras getting down with Spank Rock? Not to mention the most blatant “butter face” line I’ve ever heard (peep Spank’s second verse and listen for “paper bag”). Thank you Bangers & Cash!

(Warp) A recent appearance by !!! guitarist Mario Andreoni onstage at a Los Angeles performance by B’more phenom Spank Rock reminded one of where the most difficult band in Googling history stands in the narrative of contemporary dance music. Part of a triumvirate with The Rapture and LCD Soundsystem, they taught the rock kids to dance (to raggity guitars, stomping techno via MSTRKRFT or even inner-city bass music via the aforementioned Baltimore Bass Connection). 'Backyard Betty' provides an evolution in this genre, with a new millennium twist based on Juwan's voice and the instrumental production. The flow and electronic sounds provide and obvious European perspective but through an American mouthpiece. End result = DOPE.
