When you spend much of your adult life interviewing electronic music producers, you learn that pretty much every single one of them has the same ambition—making music for movies. Maybe it’s because so much definitive electron music of the past we designed for that purpose (Vangelis’ score for Blade Runner is almost always mentioned). Or maybe at some point, movie music seems like a mature next step after a few decades spent up all night in sweaty clubs with people half your age. Whatever the reason, it seems like the generation of ’90s electronica acts who have been rocking dance floors for close to 20 years are finally getting their big chance to have a go at soundtrack-making. First with Daft Punk’s much anticipated soundtrack for TRON:Legacy, and now the …
Being a huge fan of the original TRON (1982), I grew skeptical when Disney announced they would be revisiting the world of TRON in an updated sequel reboot simply because I found the original film near perfect (plus, no one wants a formative filmic experience from childhood messed with). With an orchestral score by the legendary musician Wendy Carlos, the original film resonated with my budding technophilia at a critical moment in my childhood (I was about 7 years old when I first saw the film). The music became a critical part of what made the film particularly memorable, being intrinsically connected to the visual design of the movie. Disney, I thought, had crafted a beautiful and memorable picture, a beautiful example of the possibilities of the marriage between storytelling and technology. 1982’s TRON was a piece of art, a …
For all the deafening amount of buzz surrounding Daft Punk’s soundtrack for TRON Legacy, the French duo of Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo have be frustratingly silent about their latest creation (dang robots). Finally, the pair have offered up some insite via an interview in the new issue of UK mag Dazed & Confused, which features Daft Punk (or their helmeted stand ins) gussied up in tuxedo vest and bow ties, shot in 3D. …MORE
Disney has let loose another opening salvo of Daft Punk’s soundtrack to the film TRON. Honestly, these warning shots are getting a little old, but at 90 seconds long, “The Game Has Changed” is the most complete bit we’ve heard so far, with all the little electroni flousihes we expect from these robots (dig the wacky IDM-inspired breakdown). And there’s the cool Daft Punk in TRON-space image to make the blog posts more appealing as well.
Go to the TRON Legacy Facebook page to hear the music.
In a transmission from TronSoundtrack.com, it has been announced that the insanely anticipated soundtrack for the film by electronic robotic dieties Daft Punk has been pushed back due to “system conflict.” The new date for the release is Dec. 7, which means Thanksgiving is totaly going to suck now.
The announcement (enough with the faux-computer speak) also revealed the limited edition glow-in-the-dark currently available for pre-order with the soundtrack, which will go a long way in giving bloggers a much needed new graphic to illustrate Daft Punk-TRON news items in the coming months.
