Caural returns to say goodbye, also as Boy King Islands (MP3)

When last heard from, Chicago/New York beat maker was having a laugh while paying homage to the spirit of hip hop with the chopped up “yo” sampling mayhem of “Sorry, Underground Hip Hop Happened Ten Years Ago (For Regan)” and it seems that actually was just about the last to be heard from Caural.

Dutch label Eat Concrete will release “Die Before You Die” featuring that track and three others April 15 on 10” and digitally. The release represents the last batch of songs Zak Mastoon finished as Caural but far from leftovers, these are polished representations of his distinct choppy beats.

The Big Pink – Tapes (Review)

One half of Brit dub-rock duo The Big Pink (behind last year's shouty hit "Dominos"), singer Milo Cordell is keeping the band's momentum afloat with Tapes. No Age – Everything in Between (Review)

No Age

Everything in Between

Released by Sub Pop Records

Schizophrenically experimental, noise, shoegaze, punk with some good old-fashioned rock n’ roll sprinkled throughout for good measure, forward-sounding Los Angeles natives No Age outperform themselves in their bright and stellar (in both the judgmental sense as well as stylistically in the sense of the intergalactic and interplanetary) third record Everything in Between (the first two were a compilation of collected singles on 2007’s Weirdo Rippers and their 2008 record, Nouns). A unique and energetic outfit, No Age sound like an upgraded, modified and well-kept out of date machine. With ...

A demi-glace is a really fancy condiment whose ingredients call for a mixture of equal parts veal stock and “brown sauce” (usually sauce espangnole).

School of Seven Bells – Disconnect From Desire (Review)

School of Seven Bells

Disconnect From Desire

Released by Vagrant/Ghostly International

Just having all the same pieces in play doesn’t automatically guarantee a repeat of a previous triumph. Maybe it’s simply familiarity that’s dulling the once astonishingly refreshing ways School of Seven Bells put their songs together, but like many bands before them who similarly created magic with their debut albums, this Brooklyn trio can’t quite harness the same level of energy for their sophomore effort. Their remarkable 2008 debut Alpinisms was a thriving mix of sweeps and crashes with dynamic balance between Benjamin Curtis’ layers of atmospheric synths and ...
