Friday Fresh 01: King Most – Stay Inside (A New & Mellow Winter Mix) (MP3)

Welcome to the first edition of a weekly column new to URB, called Friday Fresh.  Each Friday, we will be featuring a mixtape or press drop for your weekend perusal.

Our inaugural edition comes to us from one of SFNY’s resident musical maestros, King Most.  His most recent mix-drop, entitled Stay Inside, is an inspired take that is reflective of the winter season.  A respite from the deluge of hip hop. disco, and EDM centric releases of the recent past, Stay Inside is akin to the space and time between breaths during the hustle and bustle of the day (and season).  The mix itself is perfect for taking that sojourn back into your crib and just chillin’ out rather than getting caught up in the craziness that the night life can …

Bay Area Premier of Brooklyn Boheme with Nelson George

On Thursday, July 5, 2012, SFNY brings BK-to-the-BAY with the Bay Area premiere of “Brooklyn Boheme,” a feature documentary by Diane Paragas and Nelson George, at the historic Clay Theatre in the Fillmore District of San Francisco. Through the voices of a star-studded cast of writers, filmmakers, actors, musicians, photographers, designers, and spoken word artists including Chris Rock, Spike Lee, Rosie Perez, Branford Marsalis, Talib Kweli, and Saul Williams, “Brooklyn Boheme” pays homage to the black arts movement that flourished in Fort Greene, Brooklyn throughout the mid-80′s and 90′s. “Brooklyn Boheme” speaks to experiences familiar to many artistically significant neighborhoods across the US – the formation of a thriving community in the wake of inequality and marginalization, the creative potential of those communities, and …
