Lefto & Simbad’s Worldwide Family Vol. 1 is out now via Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Recordings imprint. The compilation duties typically have fallen on Gilles in the past, but this time around, Gilles hands over these duties to trusted friends Lefto and Simbad, both well respected for their artistry and knowledge of music. The compilation is a 2 CD album, and features music from the likes of Onra, Tokimonsta, Exile, Grooveman Spot, Brassroots, Zed Bias, Seiji, Uphigh Collective and many others.

Lefto & Simbad Present Worldwide Family Vol. 1 – Album Teasers

Kicking off 2011 in fine style, Worldwide Family is a new series from Brownswood Recordings that will see label head Gilles Peterson hand over compiling duties to trusted friends of the label in our pursuit of the perfect beat.  And who better to launch this new venture into orbit than two of Brownswood’s closest cohorts: Lefto and Simbad.  Both gents are globetrotting DJs, respected selectors (with web-like worldwide connections) and the two are firm friends.   What’s more, they have repaid Brownswood from the beginning.

27 tracks deep, Worldwide Family Vol. 1 sets the bar sky high for future installments.  Reaching out to their respective global networks, Lefto and Simbad have each compiled a stellar selection of jams that sum up their individual and inimitable styles.

The Havana Cultura Remixed album is now in stores.  What first was inspired as a mission to find the next generation of Cuban artists, the Havana Cultura Remixed album pairs some of today’s biggest Producer/DJs to remix the original tracks from Gilles Peterson’s Havana Cultura Band.  The stellar line up of remixes include work from Carl Cox, Marc Mac of 4Hero, MJ Cole, Seiji, Louie Vega and many others.

Havana Cultura Remixed Podcast with Gilles Peterson (MP3)

It was two years ago that Gilles visited Cuba for the first time on a reconnaissance mission to check out the new generation of Havana-based artists.  Suitably impressed, he was back within the year for a 5-day session at the legendary Egrem Studios with Roberto Fonseca and his superb band.  Revelling in his role as executive producer, it was a hot, sweaty, intense session but a fruitful one nonetheless.
