URB’s Top Picks for Electric Zoo 2011

Made Event’s monster festival on roids, Electric Zoo is back with an extra day and a massive lineup. While last year’s event was fantastic, this year’s lineup looks to overtake the previous incarnation by pouring out a ton of proper acts; sure there will be “stars” like Tiësto, David Guetta and Armin van Buuren, but there will also be our favorites on other, smaller stages. No, they’re not on the Billboard charts or playing stadium tours, but we love them and think they’re DAMN GOOD. With that said, here’s our recommendations on who to check out at the festival.

Top North Coast Music Festival picks (2011)

We’ve all been in that situation where we’re trying to figure out who the hell to catch at a music festival. So I did all the dirty work for you, of course. I went down the schedule day-by-day and hour-by-hour and chose the people who in my opinion you can’t miss. Without going into too much specifics, here’s SXSW 2011 from an URB perspective:

SBTRKT – Step In Shadows (MP3)

Coming off his recent tour with Holy Fuck and Holy Ghost, SBTRKT prepares for his second State-side release on the Young Turks imprint with his Step In Shadows EP. You can catch the title track after the jump. Unfortunately, it’s only a stream, but I’m sure those of you who want it bad enough can figure out some way to rip it. As a bonus, I’ve also got the guest-mix he did a couple days ago for the BBC’s Radio1Xtra Live.

Andreya Triana – Lost Where I Belong (Review)

Andreya Triana

Lost Where I Belong

Released by Ninja tune

The title of soulful South East London singer Andreya Triana’s debut album has nothing to do with her musical identity, but more to do with the brutal sides of being an artist. Known from her work with Bonobo, Aaron Jerome (SBTRKT) Flying Lotus, Theo Parrish and Mr Scruff, Triana is finally on her own. The album is produced by Bonobo with some help from Fink; two incredibly soulful and organic artists that fits Andreya’s style, and together they worked with live musicians creating timeless and contemporary music. The album ...
