Giraffage – Needs via @AlphaPup Records! (MP3)

Newly signed to Alpha Pup Records, dream pop sample smith, Giraffage has graced our ears with his new release, entitled Needs.

Having been first introduced to SF based Giraffage (aka Charlie Yin) through his other project Robot Science and his most recent collab with fellow producer XXYYXX, he has consistently shown a deft hand at finessing otherworldly sample progressions over well articulated drums.  His newest release once again delivers the goods — sticking to the tried and true recipe that has proven him to be a top chef in the production game.  Needs has more than a few pieces that are destined to end up on weekend soundtracks or daily listening playlists the world over.  Check it for yourself after the break…

J-Boogie’s Dubtronic Science – Undercover (Review)

J-Boogie's Dubtronic Science

Undercover

Released by OM Records

My familiarity with J-Boogie comes from the various remix and edit work he has done in the past (including one he made for Vieux Farka Touré's "Fafa" from 2009) as well as his collaboration with fan favorites People Under the Stairs, Quantic and his Combo Barbaro, Bay Area compadres Zion I, Goapele and Raashan Ahmad spanning multiple projects, personal and by others. But as doubtful as it may be that anyone works a similar process as The Books, even if ...

LMNO & Kev Brown – Selective Hearing Part 2 (Review)

LMNO & Kev Brown

Selective Hearing Part 2

Released by Up Above Records

Long Beach native James Kelly and DC-based Kevin Brown have teamed up once again under their pseudonyms LMNO and Kev Brown, respectively, in an appropriate and highly anticipated return to their highly original and collaborative brainchild (and homage to) James Brown. Their original work was unleashed onto the world in 2008’s well-received and inventive Selective Hearing, a soulful serving of stylized beats and eloquent rhymes. With quality cuts like “The Beat Tape” and “The Cause,” James Brown threw down a debut of impressive caliber that established both LMNO and ...

Selda Bağcan – “Ince Ince” (Video)

It may or may not be a well known fact by now, but Mighty Mos is a fan of Selda’s, as well he should be. The Turkish psych that the singer and guitarist churned out is tops…open up an ear hole.
