Last year, Bastard Jazz Recordings commissioned Tall Black Guy to put together their first ever Tempo Dreams compilation. To follow up the critically-acclaimed success, the Brooklyn label reached out to modern funk masterminds Teeko and B. Bravo out on the west for some curation help.
If you aren’t familiar with Teeko or B. Bravo, they are two amazing visionaries doing big things based out of the Bay Area. Both artists come from a DJ background and bring a new perspective to keeping the funk alive. Teeko was once described as the “most insane and creative turntablist” by everyone’s favorite DJ, Mark Ronson. He was also recently involved in the creation of Vestax’ Controller One—the first turntable engineered to be a musical instrument. B. Bravo is a founding member of the Frite Nite crew, a Red Bull Music Academy alum, and is a one of the more recognizable figures in the modern funk movement. Together, they are Starship Connection and for today, they present to you, “Tempo Dreams Vol. 2.”
Frite Nite label head Salva and Fade to Mind duo Nguzunguzu (en-goo-zoo-en-goo-zoo) have announced a fourteen-stop North American tour spanning the month of March, with two stops in Canada. Once Salva returns from his current UK/European tour with Shlohmo, he will meet up with Nguzu in Los Angeles and hit up the Pacific Northwest before heading south to SXSW and a handful of other locations.
Check out mixes by Salva for the Fader here, and Nguzunguzu for Transmusicales here. Follow the jump for a full listing of tour dates:
On February 2nd in London Town, the West Coast traverses the Atlantic when the innovative beats duo and FoF fam Shlohmo and Salva land in London for the first time. They’re in town to celebrate their EU tour alongside the launch of a new night which sees the dusty psyche beats of Kutmah’s art and music jam Sketchbook resurrected alongside the London chapter of live screenprint crew HIT+RUN and new art and music label, Earnest Endeavours (who brought you B. Bravo’s “Kiss N Tell” EP).

Grammy Award winning jazz saxophonist Gary Bartz began making waves on the jazz scene during its prime in New York City and never slowed down. Mr. Bartz was formally trained at Julliard; however, it’s the time alongside jazz greats like Miles Davis, Charles Mingus and McCoy Tyner that has placed him as a legend in the game. R&B icon, Bilal, serves as featured vocalist for the Gary Bartz Project, and for this special night only, soul sensation and 2006 RBMA Participant, Aloe Blacc, will join them on stage.
