The Best Movement-Detroit Afterparties 2011

First rule of attending a festival is that there will be afterparties. Since the first DEMF found Derrick May DJing to 200 friends in a late-night art gallery space, the Movement party scene has grown to seveal dozen events, ranging from amped-up clubnights to secret venue all-nighters. Since Detroit is a 2am town, and many of these venues are not typically used for DJ music, there’s always the chance for a bum party. Kaskade, Pretty Lights, DJ Shadow Headline ‘Identity’ Tour

A bevvy of current dance music favorites, includng Kaskade, Pretty Lights and DJ Shadow, have been announced as part of America’s first traveling electronic music festival, titled Identity. The event will travel through North America’s amphitheaters in August and September, like mini-Ultra Music Fests, bringing the current dance music rush to nearly 20 cities before it’s over. Deadmau5, Guetta, Tiesto To Headline Ultra Music Fest

Ultra Music Festival has announced the initial batch of performers for their annual dance music bachannal in Miami, including easily the three biggest names in dance music—Deadmau5, David Guetta, Tiësto—to headline the event’s first three-day party. Also on the bill are global dance faves The Chemical Brothers, Benny Benassi and Sander Kleinenberg (performing an unusual live set). But beyond these mainstream mainstays, the bill is packed with popular American electro icons (MSTRKRFT, Steve Aoki, Wolfgang Gartner), crossover indie dance stars (Chromeo, !!!, Empire of the Sun, Cut Copy, Klaxons, CSS, Crystal Castles), European techno legends (Laurent Garnier, Carl Cox, Gui Boratto) and dozens of other top acts from Afrojack to, er, Afrobeta. …MORE

Rusko On Fire, Literally and Figuratively (Video)

When word leaked earlier this year that UK dubstep king Rusko was producing tracks for the next Britney Spears album, there was a quiet but sweeping understanding that the growing underground movement in EDM would soon explode onto the mainstream in a way that would render it inescapable. Some were apprehensive about the union, while others trusted that if anyone could help resurrect Brit, a dose of legitimate dubstep from Rusko just might be the key. Either way, supporters and naysayers alike almost didn’t have a chance to find out after an unfortunate accident this week.

The DJ’s house caught fire Monday, apparently caused by an explosion from his car. His new Los Angeles home and studio reportedly suffered significant damages, though he did manage to save a few important items. Rusko informed fans of the accident yesterday, …
