R.I.P Technics Analogue Turntables

These were the kind of turntables I ‘learned’ to first DJ with. Such a shame but alas polaroid was killed, now this. The future is here :’(

This is the official statement from the Osaka based company [Via Resident Advisor]:

Panasonic has confirmed that it ceased the production of its Technics-branded analogue turntables this autumn. After more than 35 years as a leading manufacturer of analogue turntables, Panasonic has regretfully taken the decision to leave this market. However, Panasonic will continue to sell headphones under the Technics brand. We are sure that retailers and consumers will understand that our product range has to reflect the accelerating transformation of the entire audio market from analogue to digital. In addition, the number of component suppliers serving the analogue market has dwindled in recent years and we brought forward the decision …

R.I.P. Ari Up – More Than Just A Punk Legend

The tragic death of Ari Up early this week has a lot of people digging out the work of her seminal dub-punk group The Slits with a renewed appreciation. But perhaps the bigger tragedy isn’t just the loss of a legend, but the fact that well into the ’00s, the dreaded visionary was still creating quality music. So while the rest of the web celebrates Ariane Daniele Forster aclaimed early work, we figured we’d offer up something more recent, yet equaly memorable.

RIP Rob Kondrak (1948-2009)

Photographing punk and garage bands isn’t a good way to make a dollar. Bob Kondrak, though, simply did it for the love of music. There’ve been various tributes to him posted all over the place and each is more eloquent than whatever this post has wound up being.

Beyond the obvious, what’s so horrible is that if one endeavors to find out what happened via Google News, there’s nothing to be found. So much for the interwebs.

This has not been a good week.
