I’m hardly alone in my lamenting the passing of such an iconic genius as Apple co-founder Steve Jobs or in celebrating his immeasurable contributions to technology and culture. But I’m moved to not only share in the collective outpouring of emotion for a man most of us have never met—and we may rightfully be accused of idealizing to at least some extent—but also how his life’s work helped me pursue mine. I’ve never lost sight of Jobs’ role in creating the indispensible tools that gave me a creative platform and career. Ed Banger records head Pedro Winters (Busy P) has finally spoken about the tragic death of his close friend and musical brother DJ Mehdi last week. And of course, he’s communicating with music. Winters posted “Loukoums” on the Ed Banger Soundcloud page along with the message:

Reports are coming in that DJ Mehdi of Ed Banger Records has passed away at the age of 34. No official word from from the label has ben issued, but artists including Bob Cornelius Rifo of Bloody Beetroots and King Britt have posted Tweets confirming his passing. …MORE
Legendary singer, songwriter and producer Nick Ashford died Monday at the age of 70 after a long battle with throat cancer.
The North Carolina-born Ashford met his wife Valerie Simpson in Harlem in the early ’60s, and began a career of writing hits for such artists as Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, Diana Ross and Smokey Robinson. The duo later went on to perform their own songs in the ’70s and ’80s, including Larry Levan favorite “Bourgie Bourgie” and hti sngle “Solid.”

Legendary house and church vocalist Darryl Pandy has passed away as was confirmed today by both TRAX Records and Chicago 5 Magazine. Over the past few years stories of Darryl in the hospital had become more prevalent and unfortunately today the news was confirmed of his passing by Farley Jackmaster Funk. …MORE
