KRS revives Stop the Violence Movement

Twenty years back KRS One and BDP brought together the top rap talents to record the landmark “Self Destruction” for his Stop the Violence Movement. Well, word’s out today that he’s back at it spending the last weekend recording new Stop the Violence Movement material with an updated cast that includes 50, Busta, Snoop, Lil Wayne, StV vet MC Lyte and a host of others.

The music’s scheduled for promo release next week, but we’ll have the word if this hits the Internets earlier than that.

Illa J Album Release@The Root Down

URB’s been blastin’ Illa J for a solid minute, now, so it’s no wonder we were peepin’ his album release party of his debut, Yancey Boys, this past Thursday at The Root Down Thursdays in the Little Temple Bar, LA. When URB arrived DJ Sloe Poke was gracing the decks, and oh how graceful it was. Dude spun amazing hip-hop, afro/latin beat, even a little reggae. I won’t go into specific songs, but him alone is worth checking out The Root Down. Then Mr. Frank Ditty stomped onto the stage, and this lucky crowd got to hear some new material from the Detroit Ditty of Frank ‘N Dank. He then introduced the main event, Illa J, accompanied by House Shoes on the beats. Illa floated in center stage with a “Yancey Boys” tee and a Dilla hat. …
