With less than a month before it’s debut, the New York edition of Electric Daisy Carnival has announced it’s line-up, including headliners Armin van Buuren, Afrojack, Steve Angello, Richie Hawtin and Fatboy Slim. Promoters Insomniac have taken a page from their lead rival, Ultra Music Festival, in giving UK superstar Carl Cox his own stage to curate, which will feature John Digweed, Seth Troxler and an apparently not so retired Danny Tenaglia. But we’re really struggling to un-see the image of our favorite minimal techno white guy Richie Hawtin’s face photoshopped onto 50 Cent’s body in this rather amusing photo gallery done up by the gang at Mixmag (presumably after a full weekend at Fabric.) Since his early days manipulting records on three turntables with an arsenal of foot pedals to his Decks, EFX & 909 heyday and the salient Closer to the Edit deconstruction of techno, Richie Hawtin has always been searching for a new alchemy with which to transform the traditional techno track into something more.
While the world was preparing for Christmas 2011, Hawtin’s new mobile app publisher Liine unveiled Remiix, an app for iPhone that let’s you “combine, transform and re-arrange” tracks released on his revered Minus label. Made Event’s seminal Randall’s Island event Electric Zoo 2011, sure had lofty expectations; not only did they add an extra day to their festivities, but the lineup, the stages and all things on-site were on a grander scale. Everything from stage design, booth coordination, food trucks and even security was maintained on a next-level tip. But was the lineup up to par with its surroundings for all three days?
