Raveonettes, The – In and Out of Control (Review)

Raveonettes, The

In and Out of Control

With their rich shoe-gazey guitar swells and catchy pop melodies in perfect balance, The Raveonettes put forth a tremendous effort with In and Out of Control. The album has a great, thought-out feel. This is more then just a bunch of songs thrown together. The album is more full then previous releases. This could be because of their self induced limitations in previous albums (only in B flat, only three chords, and with no ride cymbals). Each song has legs. This means each song can stand alone, ...

The Raveonettes Fall Tour

To support their upcoming release, In and Out of Control, Danish rockers The Raveonettes will hit the US with their signature fuzzy guitars.

Sharin Foo talked to Billboard about the big difference between this album and 2008’s Lust Lust Lust. He said, “Our past records have tended to sound like different perspectives of one controlling emotion, both sonically and thematically, almost like a drone. But this record is very much a collection of songs which each has their own individual emotion, energy and personality.”

If you head over to the band’s page at Vice Records, you can download the three leaked tracks (”Last Dance,” “Boys Who Rape (Should All be Destroyed)” and “In and Out of Control”) and catch studio footage.

The Raveonettes Go Digital

The Raveonettes are keeping in touch with technology, as well as every human’s divine lust for free tunes. It is said that four separate EPs will drop before the end of 2008, put out by Vice, and the first one is hitting the inter-waves today. It is a remix EP of songs from Lust, Lust, Lust, that can be downloaded here for free.

The other EPs will unmask a sound that is not so familiar with The Raveonettes, but one that has been an undertone in their music. Sometimes They Drop By, coming Sep 23rd, will explore more electronic influences in the Danish duo’s arsenal. The other EPs drop Oct 21st and Novemeber 25th, each giving new twists on The Raveonette’s already established sound. Then, one more Christmas EP of Christmas songs done in a modern …

Ravonettes pull a sister switcharoo

Lots of bands change members over the course of their career. But when your act is a two-piece like The Ravonettes, changing 50% of that equation is going to be pretty noticable. Nevertheless, there’s a lot of scratch to be earned on the summer festival season, which is probably why Danish two-piece The Raveonettes won’t taking time off from the road, despite the fact that the half with a uterus, singer/guitarist Sharin Foo, has that particular body part very much full at the moment, thank you very much.

The solution? Recruit Foo’s sister Louise Foo to fill in for mommy-to-be Sharin. This certainly isn’t the first sibling swap in pop music (Lynard Skynard anyone?) but might it irk some of the Rave’s bigger fans? Maybe that’s why they waited until 3:45 PDT on a Friday …

Lust Lust Lust

Released by Vice Records

With its collision of '60s pop harmonies, garage rock chords and feedback monsoons, The Raveonettes' debut EP, Whip it On, proved irresistible to critics and fans alike, but with their next two albums, the Danish duo scrubbed the muddy edges right off their sound. At first this worked as Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo tweaked the Dogme-inspired songwriting restrictions they'd followed and found success in a major key with Chain Gang of Love. Then on 2005's Pretty in Black, the crucial fuzz was almost completely gone as they ...
