It’s the height of summer in Chicago and that means it’s time for excited (and soon to be inebriated) masses to gather in Grant Park for the city’s biggest (and most commercial) music festival. With an expanded territory in the park and an expanded capacity, Lollapalooza 2010 showed up with an impressive crop of performers and ideal weather, and after the first day, one big question: Didn’t this used to be a rock festival?
OK, there certainly we’re plenty of guitar-focused bands playing throughout the park with acts like The Walkmen, The Black Keys, The New Pornographers and Wavves entertaining the masses, but my path for the day turned out to be filled with keyboards, drums and overwhelming rhythms.
The job of starting all this off fell to Atlanta’s latest hip hop superstar B.o.B whose chart …
Bilal recently sat down with Centric TV in New York’s Time Square to discuss his upcoming album, Airtight’s Revenge coming late summer/early fall on Plug Research. Bilal talks about the meaning behind the album title, labeling “Freedom” as one word to describe his album, working with an independent label like Plug Research as opposed to Interscope, his enjoyment of Martial Arts, and his love of people watching.
Bilal will also be on this year’s bill for UCLA’s 2 day Jazz/Reggae Festival on May 30th and May 31st, alongside Nas & Damian Marley, Raphael Saadiq, Q-Tip, Barrington Levy, The Foreign Exchange, Nneka, Quadron, and many others…. flyer after the jump.

I hit the wall yesterday. This whole SXSW thing can run you down.
The group’s first gig was a DJ set with Kingdom and L-Vis 1990 back at Silhouette. A small crowd got in to the mid day acid house set the masses filed in for the day.
I landed in the Levi’s Fader Fort to meet Keys N Krates and catch The Very Best. The set was excellent, and then I fell in love with Marina and the Diamonds. Well, more so Marina than the Diamonds….
